External illuminated sign to a hotel. No CPC continuity.
SWA from main building. Underground.
SO............digicat & genny. plonk genny on cable phase (circuit disconn), and trace route.
Then put genn connection to armour, after removing gland from casing.
Discover location of earth breakPray
Dig - 4` down, through tree roots etc.........Grrrrrr
find cable. Meanwhile, out at the sign (10 M from problem)
find metal pattress buried in ground, with 3 flexes coming from it, and half a roll of blue insul tape wrapped around it.
1 flex (2 core) = supply!
1 flex (3 core) - feeds IP65 D/skt "for fairy lights at christmas"*_*_*
1 flex (3 core) - feeds illuminated sign.
n.b
1. the pattress is 10" horizontally from the public pavement outside the hotel.
2. The 2 no. 3 core flexes are "buried" approx. 1.5" deep:O
3. The SWA is fed from main intake, via BS88 fuse, contactor, and solid link rated 20A - 10mm 2 core
so - rip that lot out.
The flex that fed the sign runs to the leg of the sign, where there is a (buried) connector block, with red tape this time, 1" under the turf.
Supply & fit new IP65 RCD socket. Cut the old SWA, cold resin connection to the new socket, then to the sign.
By now, it`s about 6.30. Backfill, sweep up, jump in van........
The flaming battery has only gone t1t5 up while I was on the job - got to sort it in the morning, as I`ve a call earlyish.
I don`t like days like today
