Most of their coal is open cast mined. My SIL over there lives on a farm and they have the blight of a new open cast mine opening just a mile or two from their boundary. their neighbour who has the coal under his land is likely to be bought out, but they might just end up stuck there next to an open cast soal mine.
think that article is rather over egging things, but it is interesting. All the inverter manufacturers are working on small battery storage units built into inverters, just a couple of Li-ion cells, enough to power lights for a few hours. Just need a bloody big version to power the UK LOL
