A great big Harrison Centre LATHE.

Why?

The LATH & plaster ceiling was not strong enough to carry the 500kg of lathe, so the lath gave way and the lathe fell to the floor below.

Unfortunately the cast iron bed is now smashed to bits, and that's a shame because it was an excellent old gap bed  centre lathe.

:coat   ]:)

good thing its only a lamp that gets very hot next to that piece of flammable wood and not the insides of a consumer unit, otherwise it would have been on fire. lack of metal box and all that...

Sorry SW, I know how these things bug you :Salute

was unsure of the correct spelling.  :Blushing

Definately won't support a lathe now someone's messed up that joist!

Duck,

You're fine mate.

It's not so much that they bug me, it's just that the whole world seems to be dumbing down.

We are suffering from a massive dumbing down of the trade, & engineering in general.

I am honestly concerned that the way things are going the world will become so lax, that there will be no one left who knows enough to re-educate people.

If anyone has seen this film you will understand what I am on about, I know it's fantasy, but, even things like basic grammar & spelling, no one cares about anymore.

Lets eat, Grandma.

Lets eat Grandma.

Their, they're, there, are so commonly misused now it is saddening.

etc.

I agree with Paul.. I was really sad then, i thought a Harrison lathe had actually fallen to the floor...

One of the first machines I ever used was a fairly large Kearns borer. Years later i saw my precious borer cut in half in a very large skip. Still need counselling now i do!!!!

john. [Machine tools have feelings too you know...]

john...

I understand SW, I also find that our trade is less respected these days and we're held in the same esteem as window cleaners and gardener's which makes me sad as we have to put a great deal of effort into ensuring our work is not only pleasing to the eye but safe for continuous use for many many years.

I blame Margaret Thatcher for creating this desk based society where no one actually does anything other that create paperwork for someone else. A bit like those pyramid scheme's.

:)

It was a bit tounge in cheek but it's true we are existing on fewer and fewer actual skilled people and relying on invented schemes to tell us what to to do and how to do it.

I do not need to go on a pasma course to be told how to climb a scaffold tower but the paperwork says I need to therefore I'm keeping people in jobs.

That is an Elga mill i think?? Sort of the modern [ish] answer to an openside planer...

[Have not got room for one of them!!]

john..

It's a CNC controlled Elga Mill, yes, the only thing for scale is the sweeping brush.

Back there Tuesday looking at their XYZ 3 axis CNC VMC.

(not a patch on an Elga Mill)

They have 3 of them in total & 2 Kearns borers, one is a 72" IIRC, I'll check and let you know.

The biggest radial arm drill they have is about a 10' jib.

They have a plasma cutter with a 4mx30m bed, a rolls that does about 3mx45mm, and a press brake that does 4mx30mm!

your right john...

:C

No, you're right john, (& only j, because he uses j!) ;)

Actually john, just realised the borers are not Kearns thinking about it, they are IIRC Websters.

I'll check Tuesday, once I've cloned the disk for their CNC monday.
