Firstly - it's not real!

I freely admit to doing a bit of shooting. If you chose to be vegetarian then that's fine by me and I respect your view, but if you eat meat then just give this some thought. Intensively reared chicken that you buy for next to no money in the supermarket is reared in very crowded conditions. Even in 'free range' systems many animals may never go outside. Broken bones are common because these chickens are bred to put flesh on and their skeleton cannot support their bodyweight. Round here wild rabbits are in plague proportions - they do significant damage to crops and grassland by digging burrows everywhere. As well as eating the grass the burrows contaminate the silage and can give the cattle and sheep diseases (listeria) and cause broken legs (more common than you'd think). I shoot rabbits and we use them in a lot of cooking in place of chicken. To me it's free and living wild gives the bunny a very quick humane death, versus been caught up transported hundreds of miles and electrocuted in a slaughterhouse.

One of my good friends shoots a lot of deer. We buy one off him every couple of months. I skin and butcher it and we eat venison in place of beef and lamb. It's very lean meat so good for you. The deer are in too great numbers and cause a lot of significant damage to forestry and farmland. They need controlling and they taste so good.

I have on occasions shot pheasants too. The arguments in my first paragraph stands true. The life of a wild pheasant is good. They are fed and looked after. They live free in the countryside and they have a sporting chance. Many escape being shot. How many chickens on a chicken farm have a chance of living free forever - the answer is none!

If you are going to eat meat; game is of the very highest welfare, it's good for you and it tastes good. I'd rather be the deer/pheasant/rabbit than the chicken or the cow.

:C

Actually I dont eat meat but its more a way of life other than any high moral beliefs and actually I do believe that humans were meant to be omnivores and certain animals and plants were meant to be part of our diet.

However even though I dont eat meat, as its me that does the shopping and cooking for the family then I have no problems popping into my local butchers (who have won quite a few awards) and I always buy decent meat from them. As oppossed to that carp with injected blood and whatever else is added at the supermarket. I think its quite funny that the butchers dont know I'm vegetational (my friend calls me that:)).

However, my point was I didnt think it was nice for animals to get killed purely for sport and enjoyment.

I agree, but in this country that is a very very rare occurrence. The value of game is an important income stream for a lot of shoots. My friend sells all the deer he can't eat himself. I can get

Sorry but I thought it was funny, I think we all live in a world were we think this sort of thing doesn't happen, but it does and I never complain when I go out after a hard day for a nice mixed grill
