I've been thinking of adding some "Special offers" to my website to try and gain more business from it...

Along the lines of..

Energy monitor supplied and fitted

Visual inspection

Periodic inspection from

Mains powered smokes

Outdoor socket

Security lighting

Obviously the prices that I put with these "Offers" will be "from

 
First thing to do is have a look at what traffic hits the website and from where, and how much actually turns into an enquiry. If there's no-one visiting the site, or no-one following it up with an enquiry then the offers section might not generate much work so not worth the effort\outlay.

OTOH though, if you're doing it yourself then just throw them on and see what happens. Not sure they need to be cheaper special offers, just put competitive prices on. I don;t have a standard price and customers don;t know how much I would charge for a fixed job type so there is nothing to gauge this offer against.

That was exaclty my thought... try and turn visitors into customers... it won't cost me anything as I'll alter my website myself!

TBH I wasn't going to discount anything, just offer good prices "FROM

 
To be fair, I am against any offers and I will try to explain why so be patient with me.

When I see a sale in any store I see the small print explaning that in the outer hebrides the same sofa was on the market for

 
Retail price is retail price - it is the only way to survive. If you pass the saving on parts onto the customer, your labour looks extremely expensive.

Remember that you are a spark - hourly rate etc. I use the mark up on materials to pay for advertising, van, pension, etc. Come on - the wholesaler is there to protect the trade..........

 
Noz, do you not think that publishing your prices gives the opposition (a) an idea of your charges and (B) the chance to undercut you.

Perhaps wiser to just advertise your services.

Never advertise your rates, thats a golden rule.

I have been called by local electricians posing as potential customers, trying to find out what I would charge, the main aim is to undercut any quote I do.

my thought, my wify and i have run a retail interior design business for 10 years and this discoun business has come up in conversation between us and the guy we share premises with.

he sell sofas etc.. and has a yearly sale to get rid of thr SOR stuff he has, he said why dont we offer so much off aswell to tie in with him. If we do, say in january offer 20% off, the customers that placed orders in november, december etc.. would be ****ed off for not getting it on there order, also the next time thay place an order they will, regardless if we have a 'sale' on will want the discount again. so after lots of thought i would not offer anything off to a customer, why should i be out of pocket? the way i look at it is, that 100 quid that i gave off to the customer with the brand new bmw could have bought my daughter some new clothes.

so i would not advertise any discount (unless you have surplus stock you wish to shift, witch i doubt as its labour). if you give some one a

I advertise in the Local monthly paper , the bottoms of my add says " 10 % off when mentioning this add, Seems to work OK as loads to people mention the add and ask for the 10% off ........ I obviously add an extra 10% to start with :eek: :^O

 
same idea when visiting your web site , seen a few offering free alarm with each full rewire , any incentive to get customers to give you a call after visiting your site
