Just an update I forgot to put in here.

When I did the full testing, one of the SWA's was IR tested to earth and gave a reading of in excess 500 MegOhms, so that one was not actually "earthed" at all.

All changed out now anyway, customer was happy, understood my concern, and agreed that he felt that the armour also should have been earthed correctly at the supply end.
