Hi,

Got a job coming up where fuseboard is old with no rcd protection and cant get an rcbo to fit old board.

Option which is probably best is split tails, new 2 way rcd mainswitch board with new circuit for 4 sockets in kitchen.

Question is can the new board be fed from a spur off the downstairs ring final mcb. It dont feel right but thought id ask your opinion on this

Cheers

Fit new sockets to existing ring. Then add stand alone double pole rcd in 2 module box.  Now all sockets (on that circuit) have rcd protection.

Cheaper and smaller than a new 2 module rcd board and offers more of an upgrade.

How much more time & money would it be  to fit one larger board, much better job  and probably no bonding either ?

I would prefer not to have all the sockets in the property on one circuit/rcd as suggested above.

Edit last comment, didnt notice 2 x 32A

M4tty, its a bit unusual to feed a 2 way board from the ring main MCB ,  a spare 40A  would be somewhat better  .

Whats the problem with splitting the tails in Henley Blocks and then add your new 2 way  RCD board .    For a few more quid the old board could be changed.

What we used to do in these cases was take out the up & down lights , stick them in a 2 way board fed from a 30A fuse and use the other ,now spare way for a shower / cooker . new ring .

I'd go with the split tails if it were me TBH    assuming they don't want to pay for a board upgrade. ?
