Another thing wrong with the EU was we were lied to again by our own government, I was only a lad when we went in but I remember it clearly because of the strange wording of part of it. Joining the EU, or common market as it was known then would allow for "the free movement of goods and chattels between member countries", Simply translated this meant that, if you could buy lets say, a car in Germany cheaper than here then if you want and got it you could do it. However, our money grabbing government, as per usual decided that, yes you could do that, however, you then had to pay taxes to bring the car back home, making it not worth doing.Look at budgets, every year beer and cigarettes go up, cigars and spirits hardly ever go up, why? simple, because cigarettes and beer are for the working man, cigars and spirits are the preferred things of the toff!
One of the major things wrong with this country is how successive governments want to screw over the masses, it's ok for them to have everything but they don't want anyone else to have anything, my wife and I were discussing what we'd do if we won the lottery, I said I'd be off abroad like a shot and to hell with this lot, our country is finished, end of! Each and every government has had it's nose firmly in the trough without a thought for anyone else, the politicians all have their fingers in a great many pies in an attempt to feather their nests after their political career is over. That's why very little ever gets done about things like companies avoiding paying their due's, they discuss a company in parliament and some MP or other blocks anything being done because, "it's a mate of mine". If the average bloke did half the things our so called leaders get up to they'd be in jail for a long time, there was a lot of talk on transparency in recent months, one MP has produced a copy of his tax return for public scrutiny, and fair play to him, our glorious chancellor on the other hand has stated that he'll not be putting his tax return up for scrutiny as it is nobody's business except his own, draw your own conclusions.
