Or, do what a lot of people do, buy it in Eire, export it to norn iron (so no vat) then when in NI , register it and then export it back to ROI before the vat needs paid, then drive it back over the border into the UK again, :)
What do you have to do Stepps ?    Keep zig-zagging over the border with the VAT man in hot pursuit ?   :innocent

Paa, Vauxhalls were always an average car at best......Kia's are better, it would be better to build Kia's in the UK.
Thats what most cars are though Kurt ...average .  Not everyone drives top of the range stuff  except the Top Gear tossers .  OK theres quite a few round here who I call  Beamer drivers on Ford Escort wages  but thats up to them ....most can't afford the repair charges.

Lets face it , they're all self propelled boxes on wheels ,  all the rest is propaganda .

Unless it's changed a great deal in the last 20 years, once you export it back into Ireland on a UK register then the trail is lost once you drive it back into the UK again.

It's on the UK register as being a registered export and vat has been paid in Ireland, Eire in the meantime thinks it's been exported into the UK as a new unregistered vehicle,

Used to be a very common done thing.

Another thing wrong with the EU was we were lied to again by our own government, I was only a lad when we went in but I remember it clearly because of the strange wording of part of it. Joining the EU, or common market as it was known then would allow for "the free movement of goods and chattels between member countries", Simply translated this meant that, if you could buy lets say, a car in Germany cheaper than here then if you want and got it you could do it. However, our money grabbing government, as per usual decided that, yes you could do that, however, you then had to pay taxes to bring the car back home, making it not worth doing.Look at budgets, every year beer and cigarettes go up, cigars and spirits hardly ever go up, why? simple, because cigarettes and beer are for the working man, cigars and spirits are the preferred things of the toff!

One of the major things wrong with this country is how successive governments want to screw over the masses, it's ok for them to have everything but they don't want anyone else to have anything, my wife and I were discussing what we'd do if we won the lottery, I said I'd be off abroad like a shot and to hell with this lot, our country is finished, end of! Each and every government has had it's nose firmly in the trough without a thought for anyone else, the politicians all have their fingers in a great many pies in an attempt to feather their nests after their political career is over. That's why very little ever gets done about things like companies avoiding paying their due's, they discuss a company in parliament and some MP or other blocks anything being done because, "it's a mate of mine". If the average bloke did half the things our so called leaders get up to they'd be in jail for a long time, there was a lot of talk on transparency in recent months, one MP has produced a copy of his tax return for public scrutiny, and fair play to him, our glorious chancellor on the other hand has stated that he'll not be putting his tax return up for scrutiny as it is nobody's business except his own, draw your own conclusions.

What MP is that then,?

I didn't think any of them would be that honest,!!!

I heard today how much this country owes   ( Being me I've now forgotten the figure )   but it is trillions of pounds . We are a third world country .  I just don't get it anymore and , like The Duck I'm starting to shut it out .   We owe trillions so ...erm  I know ...lets send India 100million quid every year thats a good idea.

How embarrassing was that ?!!!   The Indians said they didn't need it , we are an industrialised country with our own space programme , we don't need the UK's money .   Still took it though !!!

Its fatal to give governments loads of tax money ...they don't know what to do with it !!!!

Local government  shove the council tax up every year ...what do I see ....cycle lanes about 10 metres long  !  How much did that cost ?       A dual carriageway halved down the middle into one lane for cars  , backing up for miles ,  the other half for cycles ....ever see a bike on there ?   NO !!!

Central government ....Oh we got some money left over what shall we do with it ?    I know !!!   Build a hospital ..NAW!    Give it to India.

Apparently Corbyn has published his figures but they look a bit iffy because he's not claimed quite a few grand that he's entitled to, but at least he's published them, no doubt if he is fiddling he'll get collared now.

Ye, well he is in bed with terrorists and they know how to launder money anyway, so it doesn't matter that much really.

Been saying that myself for ages, have we got money for housing? no, but we have money to waste on some stupid art gallery or something. The roads near me are awful, anyway one day they started planting all these trees, they were alongside the roads and no doubt in a few years would be cut down as they would be a hazard to traffic. Anyway I rang the council and asked how come they had cash for trees but not for repairing roads? "different budget" came the reply! Interesting concept that, I wonder how it would go down with HMRC "sorry mate, cant pay my taxes this year haven't got enough in that budget, Luckily my other budget is quite healthy so we'll be having 2 foreign holidays this year"

Always thought he was weird, most politicians are normally in bed with either someone else's wife, an escort or a rent boy. Do you think that's why he isn't popular? lol

Naw,

Its easy really,

He's just a complete and utter dick,!

Not capable of running a five year olds birthday party, let alone a country, unless of course, the 5yo happens to have Kim Jung as a parent, or the country is the size of haydock roundabout.

It's true, mercs are basically considered 'rovers' back in Germany, used as much for taxis as much as executive transport!

That was a late 90's early 00's trick. We had lots of Opel Astras and Corsas floating about.

With the £-€ exchange rate isn't worth it now. I know of lots of northern used cars going south now.

A strange one is old lorries are making big money now by exporting them to Africa.

Really !!     What about Beamers  ?  A mate has just bought some sort of top special edition , soft top beamer thing  for an enormous sum .  Had it three weeks ,10,000 miles,  under warranty , its been in the dealership four times in that time .

Done it a lot in '70s '80s too when the punt only cost about 70p,

I remember a load of Opel Corsas and the Vauxhall dealers didn't like selling them Nova parts,  my mate used to have to borrow his sisters car when he went to get spare parts that he couldn't get at the scrappies, and there were plenty of Novas and Corsas in Torrens's yard,,,   :slap

I knew a guy had a filling station in Bundoran and he reckoned the amount of diesel he sold into the North was about 90% of his business, he told me once about one guy in a transit that had a heating oil tank in the back,!

Don't think you'd get away with that these days tho....

yep, i know people who sell their old ones to someone who exports them to africa. better price than selling it to someone in the UK
A funny one was that a local cement lorry was seen on TV driving around Africa on some news bulletin with the local Irish livery still on the side.

I had an old Daihatsu HiJet van, it failed the mot miserably and I was expecting about 40 quid scrap, anyway this bloke gave me 150 quid for it and sent it abroad, it was already liveried up with all the reflective stripes etc, it's probably running around India or somewhere as an ambulance now.
