Where I used to live (still South West) there was a genuine, 1980s 'Liverpool Municipal Council' or similar Sherpa van, that defied all odds by still being on the road until the early 2000s.

Not sure how it got sold with the livery still on - I mean, joking aside, it could have been stolen and easily, in those days. VIN tampered and who would really know or care 20 years later?

It had never been washed in it's life and just to add to the hilarity had an unconvincing metal 'H' type alarm box bolted to one of the back doors with 'ALARM' painted on it. Wish I had a picture now.

Yes, I think the problem at the time was that you could still easily buy them in the free ads for about £300 with 6 months MOT

and this attracted 'a few barrys'.

Nowadays you would have to be going out of your way to buy one and I imagine you'd be looking at £1-2k??

I had an 1800 (carb, not injection :( , although this did mean it had the ultra reliable GM Family unit) with 'Exclusive' trim;

these were the ones that were somewhat pointlessly IMHO shipped to Irmersher for final bumper, spoiler and decal fitment!

Being RWD it was a great drive though, and before the days when cars were loaded up with hefty extras, the 90 or so BHP went a long way.

Here it is... Don't be fooled by the ancient Renault, this would have been taken in 2002ish on a Kodak 1MP digital camera

p.s I read online that they've promised to keep EP plant open until 2021, and although cars are a bit different from chocolate,

we were promised that the Cadburys factory at Keynsham (very near the dealer I used to use as it happens!) would 'never close' on takeover too :(

£1-2K?

I used to know this builder and he was tighter than cramp, one time he tried supplying secondhand electrical fittings for a large job, it didn't happen. Anyway he had this old flatbed truck, it was years old and he never spent a penny on it. He became convinced it was knackered and grudgingly put it through the auctions, about 3 weeks later he was rudely awakened in the early hours by a loud bang and shattering glass, he opened his eyes to see a bloke dressed in black stood at the bottom of the bed pointing an automatic rifle at him! It turned out he had had a visit from the local armed response team, apparently his vehicle had been used in a ram raid/ armed robbery at Hatton Garden in London! The hilarious thing was the comment he came out with regarding getting rid of the truck, "bloody hell mate if I had known it would have made it to London I would have kept hold of it, it would have lasted me another 6 months!

Lol. The van I speak of was around so long it *might* be on the very first early 2000s Google Streetmaps as it was always parked in the same road. I'll try and find it some time.

Well, if by disliking Corbyn puts me on a standing with Professor Hawking, I'm OK with that, :)

Politicians are all liars in my book, promise one thing and deliver the exact opposite, the only thing you can say with certainty is they cannot be trusted.Put it this way, if you were working away and asked one to keep an eye on things, the first thing he'd do would be try and get your wife into bed, either that or one of your kids! The only qualifications you need to be a successful politician is the ability to lie, cheat and steal and keep a straight face, as someone once said there are lies, damned lies, and politicians!

I don't know I voted for a girl there last week, she was a good councillor and now she is elected to Stormont, her mother works with me in the factory and her father is a carpenter, I also went to primary school with her husband, she came top of the poll with the second highest first preference vote in the whole election. I wish her well.

 I can't stand that woman ,

She is a fkn waste of space,!!!!

How much is it she has cost the gov anyway,? 50 million or something stupid like that,?
Your arse more like £500 million. I actually felt sorry for Johnathan Bell. He seemed like a man of principle (although obviously not of my political views)

There was so much hope for her. She was supposed to make a reconciliation gesture to nationalists instead she stoked them up. At least McGuiness tried he visited the queen, went to ravenhill etc.

I reckon Paisley jr will be next leader.

Burn a £1 worth if pellets and we will give you £1.60 (?) for doing so,, ?!?!?!? :shakehead

And they wonder why they got slaughtered at the elections,!!!!   :slap

Well, we do agree on some things,

Wasn't it that silly ***** that was in charge of the RHI in the first place, and gave all those benefits away,?

Must be a lot of pre roasted unionist chickens out there bred by her mates, :slap

I am not aware of any political statements from Hawkins, however from George, we only have to tighten our belts for 5 years.....oooh now let me see 15 years of austerity. And they still aren't tackling the tax loopholes of Amazon and the like, just trying to squeeze the self employed :redcard

Yes, Prof Hawking has stated that Mr Corbyn (basically) isn't fit for purpose, (as the leader of the labour party),

btw, that wouldn't be a political statement, just a statement of opinion from an extremely intelligent man, who also (incidentally) happens to be a labour supporter, so I suppose that's does bring into question just how intelligent he really is,,,,,,, :C

Holy Marrow!

If you're going to invest in a classic then may I suggest Ford:

http://www.classiccarauctions.co.uk/ford-capri-280-brooklands

Even this very controversial one:

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-3549336/Bodie-s-Ford-Capri-hit-Professional-sells-record-55-000.html

Basically the second one is a reshell and it's past is a bit murky IMO. Should probably be on a Q plate.

All  in all though classic Fords are seeing better investment returns than Ferraris of the same age.
