A commercial premises (offices) with a 2 phase supply 100A each.

One phase is economy seven and supplies 4 X 3Kw storage heaters via 20A bs3036s in dedicated board.(full)

The other phase supplies socket outlets / lights / smokes ..

3 X 32 A mcbs

5 X 6 A mcbs .. also via a dedicated ccu(full)

I've been asked to fit more economy seven storage heaters X4 3Kw(thats what the handyman has ordered:() and some extra sockets .. :|

Customer is happy to have both boards upgraded.

As you can probably gather .. not much ampage to play with but I would be greatful for any ideas or alternative suggestions.

Thanks Guinness

Doesn't sound like you have a problem Sarni, you are adding approx. 50amps to the heating which only works after midnight. Fit the slightly smaller ones ,2.5 KW I think. Keep you under the 100 amps.

Have you measured the current in the office ? Sounds like mostly lighting, shouldn't be a problem. Heating on its own phase anyway.

Yes could use lower rated storage heaters but the building is a large victorian town house, big rooms with high ceilings. If I put two of the four new storage heaters onto the non economy seven ccu ( 2 X 16A radials) fed via timer 12am - 7am switches would the customer be charged at the the lower rate? ?:|

yes ..... 2 100A bs88 main fuses Guinness
Just seems a little odd as the demand on the other phase is likely to be almost zero at night when the storage heaters will be in use and vice versa!

:D

Apache

I can only say as I see it ..

and thats the way its been wired.

erm......

Are they seperate phases; or have they supplied two service heads from 1 phase?

As for the timer on the non-E7 meter, It`ll work, BUT the customer will be charged full rate, as that load will show on the meter, which isn`t E7.

Query DNO to provide E7 metering on second head, and split everything; or just get a 3ph E7 supply???? All probs disappear then........Althougn new ones would arise.

not really odd at all - most off peaks are supplied by a single service head (usually same phase) and 2x cutout fuses.

Possible change of plan.

Ive been back for another look ?:|

Think Apache may be right Blushing Blushing with his split single phase idea.

The service cable is terminated into an eliptical cup shape thingy with three lugs. two of the lugs have bs88 60A (actually checked them this time) and the third is used to joint the Neutral.

Ill get my coat :coat :coat:coat
