Looking to install my Sunsynk Inverter, but manual suggests adding Surge Protection On PV Side

Being unfamillar with this, how many members have done so.

Never. I'm not familiar with that make of inverter, but you have to consider where a surge in the DC side would come from? And the answer to that is close proximity lighting strike. So if you are in an area that has higher likelihood of lightning it maybe worth considering. You quite often see comments about DC strings fuses, something else I've never fitted on domestic installations, commercial scale solar, they may have a place, although I've never seen any even on solar farms.
