Looking at changing a DB in a property, first problem is the cable used to supply existing DB from meter is 6mm twin and earth! Am i right in saying this has to be double insulated tails for this purpose, and now has to be 25mm cable???

Anyway, the real issue is there is no means of isolation internal of the property to isolate supply to work on DB, property is a flat and there is a bank of main fuses in communal area outside where main fuse is. Energy provider is stating they want to fit a double pole isolator and charge for the work, is this the case? Should there not be a means of isolation for the consumer to use as the consumer is resposible right back to tails supplying the DB so surely they must have to upgrade their supply so the consumer can isolate this point if they want to upgrade DB? Do they have a right to charge to fit this isolator???

you want them to install something, so why shouldnt they charge?

however, since DNO wont allow you to remove the fuse, then they should be made to isolate & re-energise FOC. but thats wishful thinking.

general rule for tails is 16 for 80 & below, and 25 for 100

have a look around the forum, this has been asked many times.

Reg 559.10.6.2 refers to using suppliers cut out as means of isolation with the distributors approval, does this not happen in the real world i take it? I know they'll more than likely want to make money where they can, but the grey area is whos responsibility it is for work covering the supplier/provider section of the system, after all, we only want to be safe when working, does this have to be at a premium???

Phone them up and request they remove the fuse to allow you to work on the installation

you put an isolator between the meter and the cu

then call them to refit the fuse..

do a search on the forum for peoples views on this issue....

Have you had an energy provider do this for you?

Tried search, couldnt find specific topics, any ideas? Cheers.
