Been to price a supply to a garage today. The customer only wants 2 plug sockets in there for a fridge and a freezer, nothing else, I suggested some lights but didn't want them for some reason. Anyway the husband doesn't want his nice lawn digging up and the wife doesn't want her flower beds dug up to run the cable. Can I run the SWA along the base of the fence? If I can anything else I need to do to "hilghlight" the location of cable? I'va also got to run the cables round there new kitchen without chasing the walls and without them being visible - why don't people get this stuff done before hand!

Bluey I would not run a cable along a fence unless it was a good closeboard fence. If it where to get blown over cable could be damaged you would then be liable.

Don't think I've made this very clear, too many beers!! The base of the fence is concrete so was going to run it along there about an inch under ground - can't dig the flower beds up but can put a small line in the soil an inch or so deep. When I've run SWA in the past I've put it plenty down with marking tape over it etc but this will be literally an inch or so down against the concrete base of the fence

You have got to ensure it is not likely to get damaged by digging. I personally would try to fix it to the concrete if possible but that is not likely to be an option. Don't you just hate some clients.

I agree with Batty fix the cable where it can be seen, that way it can be avoided.

If hidden thats when the damage is more likely to happen.

As for the kitchen just show them a length of trunking and tell them this is surface mounted and the only way to rewire without any damage to decor, then leave it up to them to sort it.

tell them about the new gas powered sockets, and they can buy a bottle of electric from the calor man!

or else you will have to use the more expensive fresh air powered ones.!

FFS, do your customers expect you to walk on water too?

some people, I bet they are trying to convert their car to run on bull**** as well.
