Hi

I have a small 2 bed house we are doing up, and want to add a couple of new lights and 2 double sockets.

Now house was re-wired 4 yrs ago, so all in good condition but nothing has rcd protection and didn

You can spur off lights for smokes.

RCBO's will be fine as they are the only circuits you are working on.

If only 4 years old there should have been an RCD somewhere!

Hi

No RCD to be seen, all I have is a 100A main switch and 5 mcb's 2x6A 2x32A 1x40A

We have only just got the house to do up and sell on ( Thats what I do for a living ) but in the paper work it said rewired Nov 2005. But you have got me thinking / worried now. Will look into it a lot deeper and see what I can find out.

Thanks for your time,

Jane

Part p came in in 2005 but may have escaped that. Sockets should have been RCD protected at that age what is the earthing system.

Hello Jane, what is the paper work you have, an electrical certificate or just a letter or copy invoice. Are there any RCD socket outlets near the downstairs doors at all? Can the fusebox physically accommodate some RCBO's or can you post a picture?

Doc H

Hi

The paperwork we have is in the form of a invoice for work carried out, its in the office (somewhere :Blushing ) but it for the rewire of the house.

Cant see any RCD outlets anywhere near or around the CU. The CU has no name on it but does have on it and the mcb's a small blue and yellow checkerboard sticker.

As to if a RCBO would fit, it does look like it has enough space in the unit, just need to find out what make, OR just change the CU and use it for my assessment to get my part P sorted, which I must get on and do ASAP.

Many thanks for your time,

Jane

I would be inclined to thoroughly check all circuits again if no proper electrical certificate was provided. I am of the opinion that no reputable electrician would do a rewire and not issue an installation certificate.

The OP has just bought the property. It's possible the certificate was lost/taken with the previous owner?

Any one installing C U with NO RCD protection on a domestic in the last 5 Years and more unlikely to issue a certificate.

(Sockets likely to be used for outside equipment - Code 2 if not RCD protected on PIR 16th Edition)

As said would suggest full PIR to find what else was left out
