I think they need to be quickly accesible for emergencys, thats why the switches are red

i dont think any socket are realy surposed to be mounted in the unit, but loads are

you allowed to put some sockets in for dishwasher etc are you not? though i would use a FCU
wiring accessories (eg socket outlets, switches) should preferably be mounted on the building fabric and not kitchen funiture.

thats out the electricians guide to part p,

like i say loads of people do it, and it says preferably

Thought that went years ago and was replaced with 'reasonable distance', or is it back again?
osg says 2 m

mines at the back of a unit full of pans, my parents house its at the other side of the kitchen with the cable run under the units

And of course these books are just "Non-Statutory".

Yes I know - If you work to the BS7671, You are deemed to have complied with the Electricity at Work Regulations (EAWR), and other bodies etc.

hi all,

Looks like general concesus is that it shouldn't be a problem,

It will be well within 2m of the appliance, s(hould be able to stir the gravy and still access it at the same time)

There hasn't been any switch at all, straight from consumer unit, new owner, now finding the problems.

Thanks

which books you reading?

Red On site guide page 160: 2m

Brown On site guide page 154: 2m

Yellow On site guide page 151: 2m

that takes us back to 97?

so when are you saying it went out ... but was there before?

For cookers, yes. For isolation in general the terms are a bit more vague. I realise this thread is relating to cookers so I'll retract my statement for the purposes of this thread.

Was around the yellow edition IIRC, but as I say, it was more general isolation. I'll look into it a bit.
