well, the column is as close to an earth rod as your going to get, so it shouldnt be able to have (much of) a voltage compared to earth. so cant really see any major issues

whilst working for streetlighting, it was common practice for all new feeds to be TNCS, and a link from the colum to the earth terminal

 
I was reading down the thread Andy and was about to post the TN-C-S (PME) bit for street lighting.

However, that is really a good thing as it reinforces the PME network as the column itself is an earth rod.

IIRC most street furniture is TN-C-S bonded back to the earth terminal, again being metal and buried in the ground it adds additional earthing to the PME network.

 
most bus shelters et al that are now used for adverts with the included electrics require a rod.

But are they actually an earth rod as they are probably painted to avoid corrosion.
dont galvanic coatings conduct electric?
