Hello chaps,

Can I do all of the test from a garage unit with out damaging and tvs etc in the main house?

I'm guessing that for the IR test i can test from the mcb of the radial with the main switch off?

jus want to confirm this.

thanks

paul

If both RCD'S are 30mA then both will trip
Made the mistake once of fitting RCBO to garage supply and TTing the garage with its own RCD. Came to testing the garage and RCBO tripped every time, easily rectified but very annoying.

I know I have done it myself so annoying.

All depends what tester you have. If you are using loop tester that puts 25 amps down circuit be careful what is plugged in. Most modern testers only test at low amps so will not damage anything that is plugged in.

Batty

Just noticed you are talking about IR testing best to connect L/n to earth you won't damage anything then.

Although to be quite blunt. Any domestic appliance that can't handle a 500VDC low current test is not worthy of survival. :D
