Your views please.

Got a new build bungalow which is having a new supply fitted into a concrete cupboard just inside the boundary, EDF has said they want a SWA run from this to the house so the owner of the property said he will run the 8 metres to which I have told him that DNO would like to see the run say 450mm deep, shingled 150mm, warning tape backfilled with earth then slabbed with more tape then top soil, I got to the job to find they have already fitted the cable and bought it up the cavity approx height 1200mm from finished floor height, but they have put it in another flexible conduit.

I think that EDF will reject this, anyone had a similar situation !!

What's your views.

Thanks all, Mike.

If this is customers Distribution circuit the EDF have no say in it.

Hi Tim,

So it's got to be a Building reg !!

This is the job we discussed before with the bunker in the garden, So far a pig of a job wiring the house, absolutley nowhere to run the cabling, I'll see what the outcome is and post photo's.

Hate this build everything is a drama, vaulted ceilings no drilling anywhere long cable runs, going to be more probs I can feel it.

To be picky, the cable should be buried in SAND not shingle, so there's nothing sharp to puncture the outer insulation. Though up here most builders use "black sand" (i.e just put the soil back straight on the SWA)

As previously stated, EDF's responsibility ends after the meter, so they have no say. I doubt the building inspector will bother either. Things like drains the building inspector likes to see when they are buried in the trench (in pea grit for drain pipes) but before the trench is filled in.

Is this the same job that was discussed a few weeks back where we all discussed what a ludicrous idea it was EDF insisting on only bringing the supply to an anderson shelter on the boundary rather than into the property as normal? If so I take it you didn't get them to budge and had to accept their daft proposal.

Everybody talks about being bridged but we fill them up with poly balls and fibre now, work that one out.

Yep that's the one, hopefully it will be a bit more tastefull than the other one I snapped in the area, as I said it,s 25mm 3core SWA inside Flexi trunking so a bit more protection but it derates the current rating.

I might even pressure the owner to knock out some blockwork and bring it in at floor level.

This is gereat to listen to other views on things that niggle you, keep the comments coming chaps.

Blimey another plumber onboard !

And i thought i was the only one:^O

No I'm Gas registered as well so headaches from 2 directions,

If we get enough of us maybe we can get a gas section running Ha Ha !

Regards, Mike.

Snap me too:)

Don't want to break up the party but getting back to Electrics I would say your supply SWA could be deemed as equivalent to Meter tails so should be Ok.

:)

Well that's what they are doing tails from the DNO head unit to CU, Just long 6metre tails running in the soil from the coal bunker/air raid shelter under the path to the bungalow.
