one of the last things i bought from ebay was £30 postage.... 9am next day delivery. seller should have sent it monday, they finally posted it thu for fri am delivery... ah well, it was free P&P and if they had posted it on time...

Just come back from the post office, small parcel weighs 500g signed for on delivery (not tracked) £4.10, yes it was 1st class but not that much difference in cost, no where near the £2.75 mentioned earlier.

On the flip side,  this morning a small package (T shirt) arrived from America postage to me was £6.50, no indication on package how much paid, but website now says "Will NOT post to UK"

I got caught out once, sold a surfboard but forgot to say I'd only post to mainland and not Highlands and Islands.

Guess what? Someone from Thurso bought it! Luckily I managed to find a decent priced and reliable courier but some of the big company's prices jumped from about £30 to £120,

You live and learn,
Being on the other end of that, I get tired of telling sellers to try ROYAL MAIL who charge the same price for any part of the UK, incluging the Shetland island, and Norn Irn.

Some people just have a mind set where they just want to use a "courier" and never even think about RM.

By the way, if you want to post a heavy parcel, use Parcel Force, but DO NOT just take it to a post office.  At a Post Office, the rate for parcelforce increases with weight.  Book it on line at senditnow.co.uk and you get the same rate for any parcel up to the maximum of 30Kg, and they come and collect the parcel from your home.  I'll bet your surf board could have been sent for £13.10, the standard ParcelForce 48 rate from send it now.

That useful to know PD.

I did try the post office as they are my preferred choice (not that I send much anyway), but the parcel force charges they were quoting were ridiculous.

If I remember correctly though, it wasn't the weight of the board that was the biggest problem but the dimensions as they don't weigh all that much!

yer, Id agree with that, they have a cut off point on length then it gets stupid expensive,

I had some exhaust pipes to get to the Rock once and it was as cheap for me to go over for the weekend on the boat [foot passenger] than it was to post or courier them,

plus I was worried about damaging them, I had a guy there making me copies so needed them mint dimensions.

ok, now, this is the second time this has happened to me,

the first time was a few years back and the seller only had 2 feedback, so maybe he was worried about bad 'karma' or something, I dunno,

this time, an experienced seller with a couple of hundred feedback,

I bid on something, starting price - 99p and £10 p+p

no-one else bid,

I won it for 99p + £10 p+p , grand total payable by me = £10.99 ,

that was Monday evening,

it arrived yesterday, sent Royal Mail 2nd class signed for,

speedy delivery , ?

it should be,

postage cost to the seller ----  £20.75

the mind boggles
give credit to the guy, he stuck with it and sent it anyway, probably lots of sellers who would go back on the sale.
