Hello, my thermostat basically works back to front, i need to turn it clockwise to make it colder and anti clockwise to make it warmer! it is rather an old thermostat and maybe needs to be replaced. looking inside of it thermostat cover there is 4 wires, black, red and earth and a single black wire and there is 4 wiring terminals and a separate earth terminal.

any ideas why this is happening and will it be a big job to get replaced.

Thanks

yes i believe it has been like this for a while, will it be just a simple case of rearranging one or 2 of the cables in the back of the thermostat to resolve the problem?

Thanks

probably. have a look at what wiring is what terminal and what the terminal markings are (including any terminals without wiring). report back here with your findings

Are you really saying if you want to warm the room up you have to set it to a LOWER number on the dial (irrespective of whether that is clockwise or anticlockwise)?

Some thermostats did indeed rather illogically have a dial that you turn anticlockwise to increase the temperature. Is that what you mean?

If it really was wired incorrectly then it can never have worked properly as you would have needed to turn it down to a low setting to turn the heating on, then the room would just get hotter and hotter and it would never shut off.

Either way changing a thermostat should be a quick simple job.
