hey guys another question, ive been offered a job to install a thermostat in a house a floor above the boiler, i kno you need a 3core but where do i come off from the boiler or the spur? what connection goes where at both ends?

thanks a bunch :)

This totally depends on the boiler make and some have very clear instructions and connection points, others may not.

I would go with a radio link, no need to install any cable apart from at the boiler.

If you let us know what make of boiler it is and what controls you need others will be able to help you.

For most combi boilers I normally take a 3 cre + cpc from the spur and run a 5 cre flex to boiler.

That way you can pick up the N and CPC for the stat at the spur

The 5 cre flex provides L, N & CPC feed for boiler and the other 2 cores for the Room stat L and Swi Live return.

Here's a quick sketch of my old heating system wiring. Might be of help. it was all separates with 3 port valve under airing cupboard and boiler in kitchen etc...

You'll need 4 core (3 live cores and cpc). Either use 4 core flex (should be available by the metre from your wholesaler) or 3 core & earth according to preference (and whats going to be easier to wire in). If you use flex remember your cord end terminals.

Look on the Honeywell site under 'downloads' for the wiring diagrams and all will become clear.

Is it deffinately a combi?
The OP now seems conspicuous by absence. He has given no specific information about the boiler type or wiring plan, making it difficult for us to give any usefull advice.

As with most things, there are many and varied options depending upon what is already there.

Probably caught in traffic he does come from London.
