all UK numbers are 11 digits. area codes are either 4 or 5 digits and start 01 or 02, then local number either 7 or 6 digits. all mobiles start 07. then 03 / 08 / 09 are various free / premium / fraud numbers

and hill signs can be useful if your not familiar with the area, bit warning to slow down in advance, more so if in anything heavy. or if your going up, floor it sooner...
Yeah they are useful, I was just wondering why they display a percentage?

chance of death? 1%, slight hill, no problems. 25% maybe a little edgy, but you should be good. not for the nervous people. 99%, seat belt on, hold tight, and check life insurance before going down

Kerch and Monkee spring to mind
What you expected me to stop half way up to take a picture. Doubt the handbrake would have held.

I like Manx phone numbers

cell phones are 07624

landlines  01624

and you dont need the code for LL or cell if you are on a Manx network, ie, a Manx cellphone number is only 6 digits long , 474113 , you can drop the 07624 bit,  :)

Hi All,

The stupid hill thing;

Say you have a 20% hill then it is 100 divided by 20 = 5 Therefore it is a 1:5 hill, why could they not just say that in the first place.....

The thing with the number plates is just that the way they were, is obviously the way god intended them to be, the british way of doing things and should be left very well alone, along with pints of beer and pints of milk.

What is the foreign obsession with measuring things in silly units??? I used to carry bits of steel on a lorry 18,300 millimeters long. What is wrong with 60 feet??? The electricity comes to your house at 230V NOT 230,000mV

When in the country; upon being asked how far is it to the next village, only the village idiot would reply 316,800 inches instead of 5 miles.

When it comes to inflating your tyres though, how much more convenient to say "26PSI" instead of 1.79 BAR !!!!!

Imperial measurements were devised by practical people engaged in practical tasks. The metric one was dreamt up as a political thing. The french had their own "imperial" measurements, but they were done away with for political reasons, the Germans had their own system of measurements too.

Same as driving on the left. If the foreigners want to drive on the wrong side of the road, more fool them.

Years ago, the roads were mud tracks, yes??

So there you are, holding your horse. Now, unless you are left handed or stupid or probably both, you get on a horse from the left, with the horses head to your left as you face the side of the thing, So, do you want to stand in all the muck in the middle of the road and risk an accident too?? Of course not... So, you stand on the grass bank to the side of the road, obviously on the left, as you have to get on the horse from the left. You then get on the thing, and off you go, on the left, ready for when you want to get off again...

So why do the foreigners drive on the wrong side, no common sense is why.....

john...

A "proper" number plate has the year letter at the end (like my Landrover)

But arguably a "proper" number plate doesn't even have a year letter at all?
