this mornings job of installint tv on kitchen/dining room wall.

had a 26 inch tv to install in a customers kitchen,

stage 1

before work started

stage 2

bracket drilled/marked and socket and aerial cables in place

stage 3

bracket secured to wall using 12 fixings in to brick through plasterboard dot and dab, also aerial cable has been left hanging outside till later next week until ladders can be used up outside of building

stage 4

tv installation complete.

Badger I like your attention to detail, but just a thought, you really don't need that many fixings for a 26" as it weighs slightly more than a Gnats wot not

Even the costly Rigifix 6mm (designed for dot & dab) would be OTT for a small TV, I typically use 4x 70mm M8 coach on these, the house will fall down before the TV does, the crucial part is to ensure there is no play between the bracket and plasterboard, as plasterboards strength is in the vertical not horizontal.

If you get tight on space behind the TV for the SGSS, try G.E.T, or the Chelsea type

in all fairness id rather my jobs have more fixings than needed than not enough and get call saying the tvs on the floor the next morning, each to theirs own i guess O) :Blushing

It is called "overkill" in my books and I see nothing wrong with overkill.

I have also fixed a TV to the wall and like Badger, I have put too many bolts in the bracket but my claim is simple, I had them I used them and the cost was nothing, I cant see them I don't miss them so no harm done.

I have a simple test, the hang test, if I can hang on it, all 11+ stone of me it's not going to come off any time soon

Most TV's now are under 35Kg for Plasma, with LEDs etc often less than 20Kg

You can weaken the wall or fixing if they are too close on some materials

The real difficult ones are cantilever, I'd agree on overkill here as the forces on the wall are somewhat more perpendicular, I will decline to put one on a wall if I can't fix to something solid e.g. 2 studs, or the wall behind

Dot & dab is why RigiFix were designed in the first place for this type of wall construction avoiding the possibility of crushing plasterboard in the horizontal

Out of curiosity, did they not want HDMI there as well?

If I go to this level I tend to recommend a little future proofing just in case they change to a larger TV with more features
