oh the item with the aerial on top of the screen is my radio, which is a must on site :^O

Nice one mate. Doesnt look as good quality as your one indoors or could possibly be the photos.

Is that TV staying in the loft or is that there so you can get it all working? Is it routed through to their front room TV?

Cheers

a quick run down, the system is only basic using static cameras outside and in side the property, (one being a covert) the monitor is there to allow the info to be copied to cd, when needed, as it was really awkward when there was a breakin, in december and they needed a cd burning with the monnitor signal being added into the tv system, so goes from dvr to modulator then into tv distribution amplifier, then goes to a channel on the tv in the aerial system. the tv has been left in the loft to be used for setting up, and also for cd backup purposes.

oh and the images are a lot clearer than that i was using my older phone camera to take the photos!

no y, i use genie domes as static cameras as very good quality and various ptz's and ptz domes, poe if am right in thinking is an ethernet type ip cctv system
Yes single Cat5e/6 carries 15w on spare pair to power CCTV so no need for 240v + DC wart at CCTV end

in time ip cctv will become more used in the industry, but at the moment rg59/rg6 systems are more used, the secret is if you use a recording dvr as a jpeg type video file then there is very little degrading of the signal. where as some dvrs record through mpeg which isnt a very good type of video file.

well it sounds like the difference in encoding frames, JPEG is a stills format used in all digital cameras, your DVR must be using Motion JPEG (MJPEG) so individual frames are larger and would retain more detail at the expense of capacity, MPEG differs in that you have Key frames (P Frames) spaced across each second more akin to a MJPEG frame, and the frames between store just the changes between each P frame, more efficient in storage than MJPEG, but very difficult to look at an individual frame (needed for CCTV) because within a second of capture there may only be 4 complete frames, hence why when you pause DVD's sometimes you get a clear still (P Frame) and other times you don't

yes they are :p

that was an old tv that the customer put in loft so i could see what to download when an incident happened last year :p but said to customer may as well keep it in the loft so in future any incident can be found and put onto disk alot easier . ;) made sense imho
