Announced today ..the M6 Toll Relief Road carried a mere 35,500 vehicles last year . This averages out at approx. 100 vehicles a day.

If you're not familiar , its  a Privately built Toll Motorway that gets you past the Birmingham conurbation avoiding Spaghetti and the constant jam ups where the M5 joins the M6  before rejoining the M6  again.

Cars are          £ 5.50      .

Heavy goods   £ 11.00

Thats one way only , if a truck is doing a return journey its £22 per day.

I think its a case of adopting  what Henry Ford said when his sales were struggling ...." Drop the price"

It is expensive but I have used it a few times.  Usually more so on the way home.

Thats an interesting point ...wonder if its true .

Another thing ......I noticed once from the road above , near Coleshill , a problem on M6  was causing the police to divert traffic onto the Toll .....did they all have to pay or what ?

Ive only ever used the Toll when its been on someone elses expense, at my own cost I avoid it like the plague,

oh, for the dozen or so times Ive used it I would have been travelling at autobahn friendly speeds and never any problems.

Laugh but they are planning to alter the A14 and then that will become a Toll road. Interesting is it is only the part between Cambridge and Huntingdon (it is a major accident area as it stands) but I can already see an alternative route around this Toll which will become the next accident zone.

Only time will tell if I am right as the alterations will not start until 2018!!!

100 vehicles a day? that averages at only 4 per hour or one every 15 minutes.

That doesn't sound right. Is there tumbleweed blowing across the deserted carriageway?

At that traffic volume it could have been built as a single track road.

If that really is the traffic volume, the tolls won't even pay the wages of the (very bored) toll collectors sitting in their booths.

I would hazard a guess that Dekes figures should be...

Average 35,500 vehicles PER DAY last year...

i.e.

35,500/24    1479 per hour...

or  24.6 per minute!

Not as ProDave rightly points out...

less cars than go down our road to the local school & shops!!

35,500/365  97 per day..

/24    4 per hour

/60   0.067 per minute!!

:popcorn

I didn't hear them say PER DAY TBH    Who knows.

Dave , when you look down on the road when approaching Lichfield  it does give the impression of tumblweeds blowing across .

Or put it like this :-

Cross the toll road and look down .....probably see one car .

Cross the M6 at J7 near me, look down.....   three solid lanes of slow moving or stationary traffic as far as the eye can see.

Somebody told me that since it is a Toll road and privately funded that you cannot get done for speeding on it...never tried it though.

.....just saying!
My mate got done going over the QE2 Bridge at 84mph a few years back..............guess that's still the M25 even though there's booths at the end of the bridge?
