What type of white tube would be most suitable for a village hall. Main room will have 12 recessed modular fittings; each with 4 T8 lamps. White (835), cool white (840) or daylight (860). Hall has a variety of uses including playgroups, table tennis, art classes and performances. Opinions please.

Cool white 840 for general lighting, but as Noz said if art classes use the hall then it has to be 860 daylight.

I fit 865 in dental treatment rooms, but I doubt any hall would run to the extra cost for that.

I'd go with 840s. The light from 860s is very white and certainly gives excellent colour rendering, but a lot of people think it's "weird" (that's the feedback from a carpet showroom I fitted out with 860s anyway).

I've just fitted out a garage with 840s and the owner is well chuffed. I have to say I was very pleased with the result. This is also the colour butchers fit in their meat display units to give a natural look.

Very interesting that people actually think about the colour factors when deciding which lighting to fit.

I fitted some flourescents in an artists studio and he wanted "daylight" tubes.. he went into all the ins and outs about colour rendering and all that before my eyes glazed over

loved the colour of the light!

He paints naked ladies,,,, dirty old man;)
