Sunday 5:30 pm.,, today my whole house electric has tripped off , it has happen since last couple of weeks now , but i can sort it out by switching back the circuit breaker , i mean the one in the consumer unit .. i am not in my fault finding yet in my college since i am only in yr 1 in 2330, here is the scenario

there is an mcb for shower , ring main and for lightings.. everytime i turn back the main switch on it takes about 5 seconds and then tripped off again , i tried to unplug all appliances and tried it again , still it tripped off...i found out the everytime i turn on the mcb for the shower on , thats the time that all the lightings will turn off in the whole house , ( if i turned the mcb for shower off ) there is still a lighting but all my sockets were dead..i was wondering because its been 5 years now that we never used our electric shower ( we have gas ) , i tried to open one of the socket , it was bit rusty so i cleaned it a bit and put it back .. and i have my lighting and sockets working back >> >>>???? i dont know why

HOW? and WHY?

please note that in two weeks time maybe it was happen about 4 to 5 times , sometimes twice in a day....

please any idea why ?

thank you

You mentioned that a socket when removed was rusty?

Any water damage to any socket outlet would cause arcing which would cause the mcb to trip.

If you have a tester do a continuity check on all circuits and then an insulation test.

The results would give you an indication of the stability of the wiring.

Hello sir,

there was no water but i think that was the moist from the wall, far as i know our wall is made of stones , so i think there is a tendency of moist ...

have you done any other DIY work on the house... like drilling holes etc....
I haven't done any DIY lately in my house , but i am doing some DIY concerning kitchen fitting in couple of weeks time
