how can i reach the recommended zs values on a tt system when my ze values is at best 2.5ohms

if using 30mA, max Zs is 1667 ohms. although earth rod should be less than 200. and to get a Ze of 2.5 on TT is almost unheard of (unless there is parallel paths)

Do you have a Za reading for the rod?

If you have any problems with high Ze you could double up on the length of rod, some come with a screw thread to attach another rod and drive it deeper.

If you have a reading of 2.5 I would be pleased as punch and be telling everyone how good I was.

and then imagine the embarrassment of discovering youve staked a gas pipe, so your rod is now a very long peice of leaky pipe!

I never thought of that, that could explain a very low reading.

B-)

I have had low readings on TT but that usually because the water pipe is helping, the rod alone usually is anything from 15 -70+ ohms.

Thats very good readings Batty, I think me and andy where having a lighter moment, frivolous, but I saw the funny side.

Any reading below 200 would be good, I know the NICEIC would like to see it at around the 100 mark, but in reality this is sometimes very difficult to acheive.

It all depends on what kind of ground you go in to.

Near me its almost always bloody full of rocks.

Bent rods do not perform very well.

if your gonna use something to lower the reading to an acceptable level, you may aswell just not bother and write down a lower reading...

round here, there is rarely a problem with getting less than 200. there usually 80 at the most, and thats in fairly dry ground!

I wasn't even going to mention that, but a wet salty emission has been known to rock the balance before.
