Don't they do alarms that are linked to a call centre ? Who then phone the customers numbers ? And then phone the police if the customer is out/not at home etc ? For a quick response

I think it has a name but i don't do alarms

Just Sirening.......
yes. that security boxes place in london had one...

or you can get them to call you. or if your crafty, you can set it up to fight back at anyone who shouldnt be there...

You can even have ones that text you. Then what? Call the police saying my burglar alarm is going off. Good luck with that eh?

As for the monitored ones. Def cheaper to get a dog.

if you have CCTV that you can view remotely, then yes, you could call police if necessary

or if you are not far away, you can simply go there and have a look

Pros and cons to both,

If i had the time I'd have a dog,

But having a dog is a 2 way thing, it needs love and attention and time from you,

An alarm is simply a one off fitment,

Both can be bypassed, both are merely deterrents for the casual walk in type of criminal,

Neither will stop someone who is intent on breaking into your house, but may, hopefully, make them reconsider and thunk about next door who has neither a dog nor an alarm,

CCTV, I have it, not much use if they wear a scarf or whatever, it too is only a deterrent,

If you want to stop a burglar breaking into your house then IMHO the only option is to live in an igloo at the north pole and risk being mauled by a polar bear.

The yacht club that I was on the committee for had a few thefts... Some of the other dimwit committee members thought that more/better CCTV would solve the problem.

How often do criminals look directly at a CCTV camera?

How often do criminals expose their head & face?

How often do criminals wear a top that says "My name is Tom the thief and I live at 123 Robbers lane"?

I'd say with almost certainty the answer is never.

In fact some members even caught some foreigners scoping the place out (on the inside of the fence) at night... Handed them over to the local plod (might have been PCSO) who then let them go!

Just Essex wittering on and contradicting himself several times on a subject he clearly knows nothing about again.

My alarm has no bells and more people will pay attention to it than his.

Complete nonsense.

Anyone saying monitored alarms are no good or are getting them confused with alarms that just send you a text need to check facts. No-one responds to bells on alarms, this is well known fact. An alarm that texts you when it goes off isn't monitored, but it can have uses depending on the circumstances, if mine goes off I can have people round quicker than the police could get there and probably be of more use.

A monitored alarm can call keyholders and also the police if necessary. There are also other addons that can assist the call centre in identifying what is happening, audio monitoring is an option, as is CCTV. Both of which can help track and identify intruders.

Just because the only experience you have of CCTV and alarms is rubbish bells only alarms and CCTV cameras from Poundland that aren't remotely viewable doesn't mean that alarms and CCTV are rubbish. You were the one commenting on people making incorrect sweeping statements but I think you probably make them more than most.

No need to be nasty son.

It is all in vain this 'security' you talk about. Anyone further north than Northampton does not have anything worth nicking anyway.

Back to the subject in hand!

I need a new telly. My old 42" Sharp has developed a few vertical lines on screen now for some reason. This one looks nice and comes with 2 pairs of free glasses:

I take it you never actually took a decent look at the link then?

Do NOT buy an LG

Have I ever, told you about their customer service,?

Makes b&q look like the customer is all they care about...
Doesn't bother me, I have several LG TVs and I have never had to contact customer services, don't see why you would. LG TVs are great.

You get what you pay for in this world. You cannot expect to purchase an entry level manufacturer TV and get the highest quality in every department. Something has to give in order to sell for those prices.

To be honest I have never had to contact customer services about any tv. Ever.

My LG will randomly at its own choice decide to restart itself, been happening since it was purchased, had 2 new 'main boards' fitted, still does it, gave up, we just put up with it now,

I DON'T care how 'entry' level you call a TV, it should still be fit for purpose, but, tbh, I can't even.be arsed with that route, I'm getting too mellow in my old age,,,

I agree. My point was more the manufacturer not having an army of customer service assistants on stand by.
