Hi,

Seen an unusual thing today instead of a 10mm bonding conductor there were two 6mm conductors wired together. Is this o.k.???

Were they just a 6mm to the gas ,say, and then to the water , using one cable.

I'm thinking if you were looking at a gas meter with two cables coming out of the floor to the clip you may think they are in paralell.

no it was definately two 6mm to the gas it was visable through its entire length.

Someone wanted to get finished and had no 10 mm by the sound of it.

Whether its wrong , I doubt it , it achieves the objective of bonding the pipes , conductors are equal to 10mm , bit odd but there you go . Someone will come up with a problem .

Is this allowed in BS, as there is no guarantee that all of the fault current would necessarily split evenly down both conductors .

I don't see anything wrong with it, not common I agree, I can also see where johninlondon is coming from but I suppose then you could also argue the point that when a 7 strand cable is split 4 strand / 3 strand round either side of an screw on an earth clamp how can we be sure our 3 strands are getting as good a connection?

523.8 Conductors in Parallel

Where ....PEN conductors are connected in parallel .... either: measures shall be taken to achieve equal load current sharing between them... (same material, same CSA, same length) and

The conductors in parallel are .... non sheathed cables ....

mmm,

so how do they get around this in high rise flats then when they maybe have 20 or 30 or even more conductors going up the service voids,?

must have a look at that reg,
