Hi,

I've run swa underground which is having patio laid over. It's run to a water feature which I was going to connect to water feature cable in a resin joint but have never done one before.

Is this the best way to go about it or has anyone got better ideas? It is going to be paved over.

Thanks

TBH you'd be better running it into an adaptable box or galv conduit box with outdoor glands and a stuffing gland.... keep the joint where it can be accessed so that the pond feature can be easily replaced in the future

My only advice is don't try and rush the joint. It takes a while to do, especially the first time. Keep calm, breath deeply and try not to think about how much the bl**dy thing costs as you joint it. :D

Make sure you have some slack in the cable either side of the joint & dont backfill untill you've tested....I let my helper do a 1.5mm swa UG joint while I laid cable further down the garden....he forgot to crimp one of the joints & it only came to light on R1+R2 :|

if you are letting your helper do the joint make sure you either

A supervise him/her

B dont backfill or resin until you have tested.

I have never used those Canoeboy, they do look expensive for the bigger stuff, however I have to agree with the resin issues.

I have recently tried that magic gel, not sure who its by but good for small joints.

I have a personal hatred for resin joints, nasty 'orrible things, my toolbox was once filled with resin......Raychem Joints are the way forward....
Agree, ...haven't used any other type of joints terminations since the early 90's, except in a very few special circumstances.

Also use there bolt-on glands too, for the bigger sized SWA cables, .....makes termination so much easier, and gives a professional finish to the installation...
