Have purchased a twin socket with two usb ports for charging, it mentions in wiring diagram that apart from main Live Neutral and Earth connection it also mentions a functional earth connection, never have come across this before, can I ignore it or do I link it to main earth.  Any reply would be welcome

Cream is "the" colour for functional earthing, as per Table 51.

The only issue that you "may" have is to ensure that the protective earthing is up to scratch for the socket back to the MET, as a functional earth is designed to carry current under all situations when the "system" is in use.

A "protective" earth is only designed to carry current under fault conditions.

You would be converting your protective earth from this socket back to the MET into a combined protective & functional earth.

Not saying this is unacceptable, but, it is something you might need to consider.

Also, as there will likely be "leakage" down this functional earth, you might find that any RCD in the supply circuit might get a bit "stroppy" if there is already some standing leakage, on the circuit/installation.
