My erstwhile  apprentice who is now a meter fitter for an energy company doing  Data on gas meters .....domestics  & 3 phase up to 100A  has picked up his third van , of which he is very proud .

Citreon Dispatch ,   fitted out , racking , cameras , sat nav,   LED lights in back,   fire extinguisher,  first aid ,   eye wash station  and get this ............ a small hand wash sink with hot water  (When engine is running )      ...a pull out writing desk in the cab .

Bit different to what I was used to ,    a metal box with an engine .

Well ........ my van is my mobile office , but I'm not installing a pull out desk in it!

That said I don't have a fire extinguisher in mine, nor an eye wash station .... or a small hand wash sink

How times change

had a sink with hot water in mine for 10 years...

2x fire extinguishers in mine... 2kg powder & 6l foam... need to keep them handy for hot works

no eye wash station but eye wash bottles

This thing also has a strip set in the floor , plug twist  cargo straps into it .

AND  opposite the racking theres a panel with slots  and a load of hook shaped jobbies supplied  for hanging meter tails on .

AND  four 12V power sockets  for laptop etc  .

AND  an inverter feeding a twin 13A socket .

AND  side doors both sides .

AND  additional security locks on the doors .

AND  he reckons its a joy to drive .

AND   it does  0 - 60  in a nano second .

BUT    its limited to 70MPH

Apparently  he,s missed out on what the next model up has ....... if you're carrying a pile of stuff needing both hands  , you can wave your foot below the side door , under the van,   and the door slides open !!!!

Possibly the best van I had  was a Renault Trafic  . Perhaps because it was brand new   ( I didn't buy that one I hasten to add)

The most reliable were either the old Morris Minors    or the various  ex BT diesel Escorts   ( Engines going strong at 200,000 miles , floor rusting away like the Titanlc)

Present van ,  I'd recommend , is  a Vauxhall  Combo  , derived from the Corsa I believe . Good for a small van .

Possibly the worst was the  Talbot Express / Fiat Ducatto /  Citroen  Shytteheap .
