So its cheaper to tax a diesel  than a petrol .

My Combo van  Diesel              1800cc        £260

Wife's Focus Auto  Petrol         1600cc       £300

Does anyone  on here get a reduction for disabled Blue Badge  driver . ?

Edit :      Ah I just looked ,  it only applies to  the Blue Badge holder  , so I couldn't drive  the Focus on my own .

There are plenty of rules that say you can only use the blue badge when your other half is in the car, BUT, i have never seen any that say you cannot drive the car itself without her in it... it HAS to be being used for her benefit, but that could be you going shopping for her..

john..

Yes I  understand  the Badge thing ,  I do drive the car but wouldn't use the badge to park  on my own .     What I read yesterday was they would only rebate the road tax  with the disabled person  as the only driver  , although we both drove the car   I'm driving a lot more these days so am NOT entitled to a rebate.

No.. whoever wrote that does not know what they are on about..

Although it is possible to get a blue badge on its own, normally, it is AUTOMATICALLY awarded to those [you still have to apply separately] that are on high rate mobility DLA/PIP.

Now, IF you are on high rate mobility PIP. then you are automatically entitled to free car tax, and your other half would have had a certificate to take to the post office to get the free tax when she was awarded the PIP.

The other way, is to tax the car "online" the system wants your NI number, and then it checks if you are entitled to the free tax, and if you are, it taxes the car for you there and then.

Two things though..

1, the car will have to be in your other halves name.

2, the tax class will have to be "disabled" but you can do this in the post office at the same time as you tax it..

All they care about is that the car is in her name and she is on the high rate PIP, other than that, they do not care, the DWP and the DVLA have no idea who is insured to drive it, only that it is insured..

You also need the DWP serial number to confirm entitlement

A Ford Ka would cost me £59 a week via Motability. No tax or maintenance to worry about.

Taxis are a lot less than that and I don’t have to drive.

Would you not be better off though?? I mean, the car would be your very own "personal space on wheels" Might make it possible for you to have some nice days out in some nice places without having to worry about the rest of the world or dealing with people??

john..

My friend is also on PIP, something we have considered is one of us gets the car and insure it for both to drive. Whether it’s legal is different matter.

Bound to be legal, both of you are on PIP.. say you had a motability car, motability would own it, but you can obviously drive it, be the same thing with you and your friend..

My car is my little "personal space on wheels" do not go anywhere with out it, would not even walk down the road.. Only place i DO go in it though, is the hospital, which is where i am going in a second!!

Used to love going to different places, ones where you can wander about peacefully. Got a thing about Birmingham, no idea why, just like the place!!

Have a think.. i think it would help you loads..

Eh  !!     :C        Is it the golden sands & the clear , azure sea under a bright blue sky , gently lapping  ,   the balmy evenings beneath the palm trees  and to wander , lonely as a cloud  in the peaceful sunshine  through fields of gold  where the only sounds are birdsong  , the gentle hum of the bee ,

no sickness nor danger in this place to which you go .

See them palm trees swaying , way down Summer Lane

Every night theres a jubilation , hear them singing in the Salutation ,

There 'aint no snow on Snow Hill , no need to catch a train ,

To sunny climes where the weathers fine ,

'cos its always summer darn Summer Lane.

Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham and Leeds were my favourite places for the music / dance scene.

Emphysema and arthritis has put paid to my wandering anywhere, much as I’d like to.

A Ka with two of us would need a roof rack for the walking sticks 😉
