hi

reading a lot abourt wago connectors. We don't seem to have them over here.

what exactly are they and what benefits do they have over, say connector blocks or crimps

They are really good when you need to get 8 cables into on hole!

Very quick!

They dont come loose!

you can take the cables out once there in... so if you make a mistake it not the end of the world.

urmm... not very cheap yet but i recon in time the Chock Block will be a replaced with this!

They do take a bit of effort to get cables out you have to twist and pull. I was a choc block in switches as I tend to have neutrals in switches when wiring but was pulled up on this when part p came in. I tried closed end connectors for a while but found that sometimes they can be pulled out. Have used wagos for a few years now and unless something better comes up will carry on using them.

cheers guys these things look really good

Is wagobox the best place to buy them from (some deals on e-bay??)

is it best to get a starter kit or are there several regularly used units that would suffice for nearly all applications (I prefer the look of the lever ones)

Also what joint boxes would I buy to cover most situations

Can some be mounted in a box to make up a type of box that can house controls for central heating?
Yes. Wago do do some boxes, I just use an adaptable box or surface pattress and blank plate.

And can more than one cable conductor go into a terminal hole for a Wago/Ideal?
No.

click the picture in my previous post

i buy a few hundred 2 &5 ways at a time, maybe a hundred or so of the 8 ways. they did have a 4 way, but last time i tried to order some they were not available and unknown date of getting more in

And More so...

They are classed as a Perminant Joint - so no need to leave accessible for Inspection. :D

I use these all the time now with the IPCC Junction Box they save loads of time and make it a tidy job...

Just a quick note guys from when I had a long chat with the Wago people recently, I'll let you make your own minds up on whether its true or just a sales pitch.

Wago make the connectors

Wagobox are a totally seperate company who make the boxes for them

I understand that wago connectors are only permissable as permanent joints for use in non accessible areas if used in conjuntion with a wagobox. They are not allowable if just used with an ordinary junction box as it does not grip the cables and connectors in the same way as a Wagobox.

Hence the similar connectors made by compaines like Hellar are of no use as there is no approved box to use them with (unless they fit in the Wagobox).

Personally I think they are great for use under floorboards, especially when fitting downlights to an exisiting circuit

I would agree with this. These boxes can be used for cable size up to 6mm from say the twin cable of a trani so very versatile..

load of B S. there are many other method of cable grip. using a normal surface box & blank plate thats attached to something and cables clipped outside the box is acceptable. also, some larger surface boxes (crabtree 1g44 & 2g44 that i know of) do have an internal cable grip on some outlets (its to grip the cooker cable)

and what says the cable grip must be made by manufacturer? youve all heard of cable ties havent you?

Why on earth would they need gripping anyway they take a real effort to get them out the terminals sounds like a sales pitch by wagobox.

Everything should be gripped technically, that's why using standard junction boxes with no cable clamps for downlighters is frowned upon.
