Just got back from a call out to a flat for no power at all.

Reset the rcd and tested = no fault present. spoke to the home owner what happened when the lot went off.

"I held the E cig usb charger plugged it in to the un-switched socket & massive flash & bang, resulting in no power anywhere"

So here it is the offending item purchased from a well known high street chain.....

Note no BS or CE markings/numbers on the labelling

No other markings at all

More cheap rip off carp.

So be careful of what you buy & check it first..........as it doesn't seem to matter where you buy from these days, theunsafe kit is getting through to the big high street stores.

I've heard of this with other USB power adapters before.

Didn't someone also post on here about a 13A socket with a built in USB power socket where the USB bit of it was unsafe in a similar way?

It does call customers into question though?

You were called out for a "no power" fault, but the customer knew full well what had caused it to trip. Did they not think to reset it and just throw away the offending item?

Still, money for old rope for us.

In fairness to her she was trying to reset the MK rcd with out pushing it down first. I just assumed she knew as she was aware how to reset the rcd as she did explain "the RDC thing will not reset"

RDC :slap   how many customers get that all arse about face

I have left it with the relevant dept sidey, so will let you know any outcome.

That does look like one of those plugs where the live & neutral pins are too near the edge of the plug body. I thought there had to be a minimum distance between the pins and the edge.

Doc H.
There is  ...9mm  I believe ...should prevent a child's fingers from touching the pins before they disconnect.

There a lot of this carp coming in ...anyone remember the case of the cheapo phone charger , guy answered the phone while it was charging ...the varnish on the transformer windings broke down and 240V entered the phone which blew up while touching the side of the guy's face ,   nasty burns.

Latest with this so I was told today.

The item went via community fire safety dept, will be added to country wide fire service watch list on websites, notification to trading standards & is on display at public awareness shows.
