When a white bloke records a calypso , using a pretend West Indian accent , he has to withdraw it from sale as its upset the black people .

Question ;      How could you sing a calypso NOT adopting a Carribean accent ?  Its not possible .

Question ;      Do black people have no sense of humour ?

Question ;      I just tried it with my guitar ... "  I took a trip on a sailing ship ..and when I reached Jamaica I made a stop   , but harm sad to say I'm on my way , won't be back for many a day ,  me head is down  me heart is turnin' aroun... me had to leave a little girl in Kingston Town "   etc etc

Can't do it in English   why is it offensive .  ?

Can Country be sung in English ?

"  I hear that train approaching , its rolling round the bend,

And I havn't seen the sunshine for quite a while now.

I'm incarcerated within Folsom Prison and time moves extremly slowly,

But that train continues to run , on down to Burnham upon Sea.

Well if  I was released from this prison

And that railway company was mine

I'd wager I'd move it all a little further down the line

Far from Folsom Prison ,thats where I'd prefer to be

And I'd let that two tone Inter City horn , blow my my blues away . "              Apologies to  Mr Cash

Doesnt work !!   Same chords but doesn't work.

If a black guy reads the news in an impeccable  BBC English accent  ( which I've seen)   are we offended ?  Is he taking the pish?

Remember when Reggie Yates voiced Rastamouse the kids TV program? There was an outcry over him doing a West Indian accent...........and he's BLACK!

Are you sure it's not white people being offended on behalf of black people? ;
Good point Ducky  ...I don't know from whence the complaints came.

Why are people so touchy ?

Any black people on here find this offensive ???

what gets me is the british red cross are refusing to take the MONEY from the 'offensive' song being offered to tackle the ebola crisis.

If they can afford to be that picky then I will never set foot in another of their charity shops nor donate ever again.

It's not that they don't have a sense of humour it's the chip on the shoulder that gets in the way.

(Not on all mind!)

We can be a multicultural society as long as we know our place!!

they have a balanced view on the world - chip on both shoulders :slap

Newsnight, black fella saying great to hear white people emulate black culture, asian looking fella saying it was 'vomit in his ears'. Like he should comment on a black culture issue. Have these idiots yet to work out we take the wee out of people we like, and are dead polite to those we don't. Hence we have haggis eating sheep shagging spud pickers who are part of sasanack english bastard society society, and the rest. Many other cultures are getting there....some just aren't. I hasten to add I live in a fairly multicultural backwater, so am not aware of nicknames many integrated cultures use.

You know what, I was discussing this recently, I worked on a project back in 1994 @ a Ford factory.

The electrical engineer in charge of machine acceptance was a Paki, and yes we called him a Paki, he called us white Welsh sheep shaggers.

We called him a curry munching Paki twat.

We all verbally abused each other like there was no tomorrow, English, Welsh, Paki, etc.

However, there was no malice, it was all site banter, and he joined in and was fully part of it.

It was an excellent atmosphere, we all got on really well and whilst it was very serious work and on times hard graft, and serious pressure for the acceptance criteria, we all had a damned good laugh and work was a good craik.

a lot of times at work I get called Irish,

but, only the guys that know Im not call me that, same as I call the English plasterer a Welsh sheep shagger,

unfortunately, i think the days of craic on site are long gone for most of the sites anyway, too much PC these days.

I thought you were a bog trotter

TBH  Stepps    How are we to insult you now then ?      Are you a Manxman    ?

I've got it  !    Certainly  not a Sheepshagger so must be a Haggis Muncher

we are rude to our friends and ploite to our enemies, as long as both sides laugh there is no-offence caused. Need to be a bit cautious, things said in jest can offend and stress people outside of work, so I am generally in favour of being less offensive in daily humour, even on-site.
