You don't have to go as far as China. As a student living in London best part of 10 years ago I saw an old lady collapse in the street ~150 yards in front. The street was busy and I'd guess that 50 people would have walked past, none of them stopping. As I got about 15 yards away a lady came out of a shop and helped her inside, otherwise I would have offered to help. I thought it was despicable human behaviour.

Compare that to some Christmas shopping in York last December, old chap collapsed from standing (waiting for a bus) and bashed his head, bit of blood etc. Within 10 seconds he was surrounded by people, the first aider from M&S came out and within 5 minutes the paramedic on a bike was on scene. Everyone just trying to help.

I put it down to North South divide.

I'd agree with that Patche , Londoners seem to be cocooned within their own world as they go about. Some guys from darn sarf were on a job up here with us about two years ago , we gave up trying to converse with them eventually , I think they thought we were mad TBH .

Life looks to be held cheap in China , thats dreadful.

I was on holiday in Spain a few years ago...

An old lady fell over right in front my family... sent my daughter into the local shop to get help, thinking she needed an ambulance.

She was only the local character that everybody new. All the shop came out to help....

few month ago i was on my way to a job passing a school, at drop off time (lots of people about). saw an old lady fall over way ahead of me. by the time i got closer and stopped, she had managed to back on her feet, but everyone else still walked past.

and to top it off, one of the parents complained about my parking....
