Been to look at a job where they want some new circuits connecting up (new ring and lights).

Existing CU is a 4 way wylex rewireable. No RCD in sight (no spare ways)

Cutout is PME with 100A carrier (not sure actual fude rating), tails are 16mm (running inside the cavity), earth is 6mm (running in cavity)

Cutout is located on outside of the wall, CU is on the side of the wall tight against the ceiling.

Gas is 6mm, Water is also 6mm (from CU).

The owners dont really want the existing CU touched, incase of problems converting over to 17th board (but they have left the final decision to me).

They dont want the inside wall damaging, so I am think of henley blocks, splitting to 25mm three core SWA (will put a metal box inside the cutout box and earth it) running up outside wall and in to the new CU (for just the new circuits).

Can I be naughty and leave the old tails/earth to the old CU as is (bar inserting the henley blocks)?

Was thinking about fit a MET into the cutout box, 16mm earth from the cutout to the MET (leaving the original 6mm in place from the cutout - want to avoid touching any of the old stuff), and use one of the SWA cores to take the earth to the CU.

I could, at a push, fit new 10mm's to the water and gas - sorry kitchen but the smakkest hammer I have is 6lbs!

Opinions? (bar getting a smaller hammer!)

Oracle.

As you have a PME supply then 25mm 3c SWA is OK, but as you will these "tails" will be >2m from the cut ou they will need protection so go from the henly blocks to a 60A MC switch fuse and then via your SWA to the new CU..

The tails to the old CU will be OK and you will not have change them, however you will need to upgrade the PEB's to the GAS & water.

BTW while you have a 100A fuse carrier you will more than likely have a 60A or 80A fuse!! (hence 16mm tails)

we have a 100 amp carrier here but it has a 100 amp fuse in it ;) but thats not been verified of course ;) (i need 100amps because of the amount of computer controlled chrimbo lights, see my aurora post ;) ) :^O

im surprised you dont have a 3phase supply for that lot!

(or maybe thats just for those camera's)

Before you do anything you must bring the Earthing up to spec at least half csa of Neutral which you say is 16mm (should be 25mm 100Amp) so will have to be 10mm Earthing conductor (reckon should be 16mm) and the main equipotential bonds will have to be 10mm regardless CJS
