After you have read the following , I wonder if you see it in the same light as I do ? Or am I seeing something thats not there ?
So, two examples coming up. A comprehensive school with a bad record of student behaviour and achievement , in a Birmingham area which is white, high benefit drawing, high crime rate, no jobs, small local indian grocery store owner murdered three weeks ago . Did some work in the school a few years back, kids walking around the place smoking and swearing and trying to set fire to it. It was called Perry Common School for years.
Then they called it The College School ( Its on College Rd which refers to a religious college at the other end) .
Now its called The College Acadamy (same place, same kids) Sounds posh to me , if I was a newcomer. Hhhhmmmm?
No.2 They knocked down the Sec.Mod. school like what where I went and built The North B,ham Polytecnic . Fair enough. Then its status was raised and it became The University of Central England (UCE) And we got used to it.
Now it is called Birmingham City University.
Now the confusion with that ancient institution , Birmingham University is obvious even to a dumb sparks like me , why would you do that? Its only 8 miles across the city. The third uni in the city is called Aston University, which is fine.
Is someone empire building, or creating an illusion for their place of work, I ask myself.??
