I noticed over the past few weeks that the DNO is digging up a lot of pavement all over, it looks like they are digging up joint boxes.

I was wondering they had found the reason for the exploding pavements???

Anyone else spotted this?

Trying to sort them while they are quiet i expect.. I know that they usually play up after very wet weather... Perhaps they are fed up of people complaining about poor Zs.. Perhaps they are sorting out proper PME!!

john..

Could do with them on that in this area ....some very poor Ze,s .....cast boxes with earth clamp breaking down I believe.

The one I passed was a joint from a large PILC cable with what looked like a 951 clamp on it joining  smaller concentric cables.

:C

Believe it or not, they use jubilee clips on to a support ring for the armouring, the lead sheath is picked up with a constant pressure spring. A far cry from the plumbed lead sleeve and cast iron box I was taught to use.

A modern TN-C-S breach joint with the earth electrode  :slap  The *** ends are mine

The worm drive clips and under armour ring are common in street lighting glands, and TBH, IMHO, better, more reliable, and less likely to cause cable damage than a BS951 clamp on SWA, or AWA.

I've never done straight or split con, out of my remit.

However, I have done EnDat encoder cables if anyone is interested.

Also ran an MHD on a DDS a couple of nights ago, and that's not possible without specialist knowledge either.

I feel a knowledge base article coming on, & nothing to do with MHD/MDD/MAC nor TVM/TDM/TVD/DDS.

Talking of DNO's anybody heard from our miss swede, haven't seen her on here for a while, since she passed out her apprenticeship??
Probably too busy digging up and re-making joint boxes by the sound of things.

I have noticed quite a few holes last few months around southend/leigh, and after rain. One definatly had power go out as my customer text me, then they dug up out side his gaff.

It was a bod from the DNO that told me about the rain./ They said that in the dry weather all is well, but if it pisses down for ages, within a few weeks, once the damp has got down there, they have all sorts of trouble. Usual one being the customer rings up to say the power has gone off.. You would not believe how ****ty some of these customers are, and how ****ty they speak to the cable jointers trying to fix the thing..

jubilee clips very common on street light cutouts, almost all thats used. far easier than a normal gland especially when your a bit more limited for space. used split con many times too - was always used between light and overhead lines. usually fix light to post, wire up with enough slack to reach the top lines then leave for DNO to connect

perhaps it is near

the financial year

and to keep their budget

they're trying to fudge it

Acting like moles

digging up holes

and re-making joints

what's the point?

We looked at a job in Southgate yesterday where the 94 year old ladys CFL's  have all blown, only got 199 volts L to  N & L to E at the supply. Bit of a rush on the way home but i suppose i will have to report this as she wont. Not had this before on one house, or maybe the whole block/phase is affected and the neighbours have not noticed either
