Hi guys , just after abit of advice. I completed my city and guilds electrical apprenticeship earlier this year , and am now thinking what other avenues i could go down ? I feel i am a fairly bright lad and have more to offer , just abit stuck as where to go now ? any help would be appreciated...

cheers

I'm not that well up on todays quallies , but I will say that you feel you are "Bright" then go for everthing there is . I say this because these days all people are interested in is what you have achieved on paper . You may be a useless sparks , I don't know , but lots of bits of paper will carry you through a long career .

All I remember from years back is C&G A got you a Elect. Grade . C&G B got you Approved Grade. C&G C got you Tech. Grade . Then you could go for ONC then HNC . No idea what comes after that. I got to Approved Grade and realised that (a) I wasn't capable of going further, (B) I didn't want to © I was totally pi$$ed off with it anyway and working 7 days a week left little time to :-

(a) go to the pub

(B) go to the pub with mates

© go to the pub with mates and chase girls

(d) go to the pub with girl

(e) go to the pub and marry girl

(f) Get mortgage and buy house

(g) Stop going to pub

(h) Stay home and watch TV

when i finnished my apprenticeship I felt the same. If you want to make it, you have to always look to better yourself. For me it was out of 2 options. 1 - Do my 2391 plus further courses and work in the companies office as a designer or estimator or 2 - Go self employed and set up my own business.

After another year I chose the latter and never regretted it since, I now have total control over what I want.
