set of triple ladders,?

either normal triples of preferably a triple combi,

need to be under 3m and reach close to 6.

.....

little el cheapo bench pillar drill?

something like this or this .  [hoping they have a VAT free offer again soon]

Im still trying to work out the difference in those 2, other than the colour, :C

Midland ladders ....I think was the place I got my Little Giant from.

Well worth having a look at

Not cheap BUT absolute dogs back wheels of ladders.

I got the 4 rung version

The 6 or 7 rung version is the ones used by the traffic light lads

As for the drill?...I gave away one of those Clarke/Axminster/power plus/sheep peach ones

Too much lash in the quill for me! Plus a cob b14 a taper on the chuck....it was ok if you were not bothered about it running out of true.

Got a cheap ish 'Ferm' radial arm one instead, more versatile

That will go as soon as I get a suitably priced Milling machine

Just collecting.....

I have a Clark bench drill and I'm happy with it. Can get you the model number tomorrow if you are especially interested.

Bought my first one "no name" from Makro for I think £29.99 on offer about 10 years go - still going. Runs a tad pi$$ed but I made 70mm discs out 6mm stainless plate with it. The NVR switch packed up so I cobbled one together with an old contacter etc. It's small enough I sometime sling it in the back of the motor.

Bought a Ryobi a bit later for circa £100 from Machine Mart and that has a 16mm chuck and is much more accurate. Got given a big old 3P jobbie as well with rack and pinion rise and fall which I must get going this year.

Ladders.............Makro the last couple of sets I've bought.

I can't see your links steps, error 500 "too busy"  Too many people looking at them at the moment.

I bought a £30 bench pillar drill about 20 years ago from B&Q I think

It's been perfect, never missed a beat.

I don't know what taper the chuck has, and I don't care. It has a largish chuck that takes drill bits and drills holes and appears to run true with no play in the chuck.

I guess if you are wanting to use tapered drill bits in it, you are into more serious engineering and should buy something better.

but if you just want to whack a drill bit in and drill a hole, then for the money it was a good bit of kit.

I have this triple:

http://www.lyteladders.co.uk/telcoms-ladders/p/49/i/65/desc/glassfibre-telcoms-ladder/

As far as drill presses go, they both seem the same Steps.

I have 2 industrial ones in the unit, bot MT taper spindles, one bench mount & one floor mount as well as the Bridgeport which I have an MT adaptor for.

Neither of those Clarke drills will take MT bits, the taper is a Jacobs chuck taper.

I have normally offered Record Power pillar drills/drill presses to clients as I get better pricing on them! ;)

ah, thanks sidey, now I know what the taper letters stand for, I just thought it was different sizes, but the letters have meaning too,

I doubt very much I need that TBH,

as ProDave says, all I'll be doing is bunging in a bit and drilling [hopefully] a straight hole.

my budget is stretched at 100£ ultimate max inc vat, so I know Im in the cheap DIY category, I just dont have either the use for it, or funds, that would allow thinking of anything better just now,

but I have a job coming up that is going to require one, hopefully machinemart will have a vat-free coming soon,  :|

ladders have become a toss up between these , or these that Noz has thrown into the mix to confuse even further,

but, as before, at this time I think its going to be the cheaper option due to the same reasons as above, use and budget.

Unless you are using something everyday IE like a roofer just buy what you can afford. I brought a 3 section DIY ladder from somewhere like B&Q before I started doing electrical work. I use this for the jobs I need which is not very often. I like it because it fits in my van so its always there when needed. If I had the money I would buy a trade one but really the one I have does the job so it would be wasted money. Trade ones are certainly better built though.

Trouble is batty, even on some of the "non-site", sites they will stop you from using domestic ladders, and insist on EN131 or above.

I went for fibreglass on everything as many industrial sites now will not allow wooden, as people are no longer classed as competent to inspect them, and if they are painted structural defects could be missed, or, there could be latent defects in the wood that could cause sudden catastrophic failure.

Rubbish, but that is the policy, plus they are heavy!

They don't allow aluminium as they are conductive, thus not allowed for any electrical work.

This is the status on all the large COMAH, & sites that require CCNSG PTS cards in this area.

yep, thats why I asked the Q on 131,

some places I work will not allow class 3,

AND, would you believe it, BS have made it 100times worse, they now have the same BS number for class one and class 3 , Ive just found that out,

you now get 2037 1 or 2037 3

you can bet the folks selling 2037 class 3 ladders are leaving out the 3 bit.!  headbang

I think in myself Im getting the BPS ones, just now I cant justify the extra expense for the Hailo ones, as much as Id like to.

I love the way you link to stuff that is about another zero on my budget!!!!!!

I have looked at the lyte ladder stuff, in fact it was either this or the one I may go for,

slighgtly long for me, but Im still confident it would fit.

Decide what Lyte stuff you are interested in, work out the fuel to Swansea & back & I'll ask Andy what he can do it for and we can see if it is cheap enough for you?

the one I just posted would probably be spot on for me,

Im working on extended size Vs able to fit inside my van,

does he really need to add vat onto damaged goods that cant be sold?

He can't sell damaged ladders mate, for obvious reasons, but there may be deals to be done on pricing, I'll see what I can do for you once I know what you are looking for, Andy has always looked after me on pricing, he has to make some money, but not always as much as others do, on friends.

the damaged should have read 'damaged'  ;)

everything is priced good for me til I look at the vat,  :(

and,

I have looked into it, even on projected turnover and adding a bit it still seems I couldnt go vat this year, the added hassle and expense simply wouldnt pay itself on my turnover.

BTW, Apache, those books are VERY eye opening, still some reading to do, but much appreciated.  :)

However, if the price was the same from Andy as it is on the Internet including VAT, then it would be affordable...

Would it not?

PM me what you are interested in & I'll ask him what he can do, look at the fuel to Swansea & back and see what you can afford to pay for what you want, allowing for this, or I can ask about carriage, which, could, be less?

I will then ask him what he can do for you for what you want and let you know.
