See post 28, i have been working on this street before and know there is PME there, I did use the emergency number (I always use it as you know you'll get an answer). but they still said will will get someone to call back.
Tell them its ok you can hold while they contact the relevant person..

or ask for their manager / supervisor as they seem unable to answer your question which they are obliged to do {free of charge} in accordance with the ESQC regs 28 (2002)

see Appendix 2 BS7671 page 241 approx one third down the page!

You need this information so that you can discharge you duty to your customer in a safe manner. without endangering any people property or livestock! ;)

How would you know its dodgy?????
its PME.

why oh why oh why would anyone want to convert a TT system to PME.???

the mind boggles,

isnt it a rule that we are not allowed to leave a property in a less safe condition than we find it?

I've just nipped around to my neighbour's immediate neighbour who've just had their CU upgraded. To my surprise, the new one was put in the exact same spot which is only accessible using a pair of steps! Is this ok, because it wasn't a new install, or should the installer have reduced the height? If not, I'm gutted having spent most of Saturday crimping cables so they could reach the CU's new location :( .

Also, they installed a new rod and this was how it was done - is this also ok?

How do they get the cable to curl?

Lastly, is this bonding for the gas is in the wrong place? Shouldn't it be after the meter???

Bonding for gas should be Green/yellow not just green!!! and should be on customers side.

you can easily 'curl' the cable by wrapping it around something round

for that rod, ideally it should have some kind of protection, could easily be damaged by someone working near. by the yellow crimp, its only wired in 6mm or less

for the gas, those colours have never been used for many years, so chances are they have just looked, seen earth to gas and left it. the earth should be on the consumers side after the bit flexi hose

For access, would be best at a mroe accessible height, but there is nothin to stop you leaving it where it was. part m (?) only applies to new builds or complete refurbishments. but you should also not make it any more inaccessible than it already is

Sorry guys - didn't make it clear. Picture of gas bonding was from my neighbour's house, which I'm going to upgrade and put in the correct location!

Andy - I agree that the cable to the rod is only about 6mm - this surprised me also, but I guess their readings were ok at the end of it.

I shall install a new rod for my neighbour and put in an enclosure and use 10mm.

I always use 16mm to the rod. I tend to use the MK ones as in the tlc book as I mostly use 5/8 rods as you can join another onto the end if reading is not to good. With the mita ones you would not be able to get a 5/8 rod in it. I always put a bit of 20mm conduit between cover and wall this gives cable some protection. I don't do the pigs tail way.

Batty

Dno like you to use 16mm. If it was to a building with TT IE new supply they will not connect unless you put 16mm in.Batty
even though if its TT, they have nothing to do with the earth, and the regs do say 10mm (or less) could be used...

If you do a new TT install on edf territory siemens who do the metering will not connect unless you put a 16mm in.

I used to do the Pigs Tail.

The NIC frown upon it - they say that it causes unnecessary stress on the earth cable.
