Hi guys, thought i would post a question about my poor internet connection i have a router in my kitchen but my laptop only picks up connection in the living room any further than that if looses connection. I have looked at home plugs which use the socket wires to make connection, but i dont think it can work becuase there is two cu units in the house (its a long barn conversion). Is there any other way to improve the signal like a booster of some sort to improve the connection half way through the house so i can pick it up in my room?

Thick barn walls are a nightmare. I have just done a wire job where I installed an extra cat5 because I saw what all the others missed, the dreaded what if?

This is one of the reasons why I dislike wifi and prefer hard wired. Is there any chance you can move the router to another position? This may help.

I would try it, and see if the connection improves, if the signals are going through wood its got to be a lot better than 4 feet of solid stone.

We have cinder block walls and they are a right pain.. and we soon learn't that the router would give better coverage in the loft conversion,, also a G rated (basic) router gave a really patchy signal so I now have a N rated one and it's much better!

They piggy back data on the sine wave, Devolo AV200 would a better choice

In theory they will work on the same phase, and are blocked by the meter, I have two boards when I get a chance I'll try it crossing over boards

Like GH I prefer wired, wish I'd included the kitchen 10+ back when I did the rest of the house :|

You could use a wireless repeater, but, the only one I have experience of was hard wired and mimicked (?) the main router, it could be used as a wireless repeater, but I never tried this out, I still have it and have never had the need to try it out.

google wireless extender fitted two to a site old farm, and got cover belkin g something.

Gave plenty of coverage round a quadrangle and into two cottages from the main wifi modem.

On different phases so did not use mains to transmit data.
