When will people learn, to photograph or make a drawing of how it is wired BEFORE they disconnect the old fitting?

I suspect never, judging by how many times this crops up.

Do people really think wires are easy and can go anywhere? would you ever get someone replace a 3 port valve (in plumbing) with a 2 port valve and wonder why it does not work?

Just learnt trust me 👍

Unfortunately I won't be the only one, not everyone wants a qualification in electrics, not everyone has money to pay for a qualified electrician to fix there Mistake.

Am I mistaken? This is a forum for questions and answers right? And people like you Pro Dave still find the time to write on here to people that has less knowledge. And a subject you clearly are not fond of.

Smile you only live once 😆

Your original description puzzled me, and I am still not sure.

You changed a light fitting but never actually said which one. You said the downstairs hall light was  permanently on, but for some reason I thought it was a different light that you changed.

If you simply said I changed the hall light fitting and now it won't turn off, then it would have been a lot simpler to sort out. Instead you chose to confuse us by mentioning 3 lights, without actually saying which one you changed.

And by the way I AM fond of electrics. what gives you the idea I am not?

Whilst you're smiling Dan, you may wish to take the time to understand what Dave is saying.

This issue may be new too you however we get asked about it all too frequently and I'm sure if you'd done a search then you'd perhaps have found your answer and could have acknowledged as so.

I don't know you line of work however I'm sure you'd quite possibly tire of the same question being asked every other week/month etc.

Cheers :)

Simple solution to that - (don't write on that thread, and don't awknowledge it) 🤔

People come here to help. If you are going to take the piss like that, then they may not be inclined to help you again.
You are right in what you are saying, maybe we could do with a part where we could put some drawings of how things should be wired, perhaps that would cut down on repeat questions. I know some of the colours may be different, it does vary who uses what for what, but it would give people an idea how it should be wired, 3 plate lighting being a typical problem that we come across.

2 minutes on Google, and/or simply taking note of what was wired to what in the first place and/or actually having half an idea what you are doing.

Awe come on mate, now you're just being silly, If everyone was as logical as us, they'd all be electricians. after all it's only a couple of wires, it's not that difficult, or at least that's what they all say until they take something off and cant remember where those "couple of wires" actually went. lol

I have to say Dan your gratitude to the help that is freely given is somewhat akin to a spoilt child. Fortunately I have dealt with many of this ilk and have developed the patience of a saint, so you may,  when you're ready grow up.

Lol. When clearly I thanked the people that helped when I said I sorted it, unfortunately there is people on this forum with sarcasm of a child, instead of acting like a sane adult by saying, "well done" learn by your mistake, instead you get cockyness.

& well done you, (blue Peter badge is given) I also deal with people like it everyday so does everyone else 👍

As for growing up, I am a soldier on leave fighting for our country, I have a bigger pair of balls than what you will ever have.

that doesnt make you much, the fact you have to say it says it all,

so, are you actually fighting for your country, or simply there for a paypacket?

there is a massive difference between people that are prepared to die for something they believe in, and simply fthere for a wage.

a smarter man than me once said,

1 man fighting for his country is worth 100 paid soldiers,

btw, I know a lot, a LOT, of both ex and serving forces, and a lot of my family were forces, and, I've worked alongside serving forces both in the UK and overseas, and socialise with a lot of ex forces,

its pot luck if you get a good one or a total nobjockey tbh,

a while back we were actually meant to be teaching a load of guys how to field repair some kit,

some are willing to learn, some dont have the brains to learn, some just need to be told an exact order, and some already know it all

so dont come the big I am, being a soldier doesnt wash much brass for me, as for having bigger balls,

whats the saying,

all the kit, full of sh*t
