Ok thanks for that. So I picked up an elkay timef from Screwfix this evening seems like it'll work. Now for the hard part to wire it .  Had a quick Google to see about direction but not much luck. any advice on the matter?

As far as I'm aware I'll be using the "com" and "no" contacts as when I press the button I will want the light on to then witch off on the set time.

In regards to the light itself as shown above do I split the cable and direct it back from the timer 😳

Why not make it a plug in unit then you don't need to cut the wire on the lamp?

Get a dual, (not double!) surface mount box, fit the timer in one half and a single socket in the other. Take a short flexible cable into it via a gland.

I will be using a switched extension lead as there a few other things which will be run on this unit I have built so the UV flood light will just be plugged into that. so I don't require another socket really but if it's needs be I would.

If I split the wire how do I go about making the connections do I require further junctions or cable?   Thanks

Your timer needs to be mounted in an enclosure to protect the connections.  Where a flexible cable passes into an enclosure then a gland or clamp is needed to grip the cable sheath and prevent strain on the connections. The timer just need to break the live, (brown) wire between supply and your light, as you say NO and COM terminals.

There are several ways to physically meet those needs, my plug in suggestion just avoided modifying your floodlight.

Ok I'll go with what simplest really  is there any videos or images that I could follow as I am struggling to say the least

So I just got it wired up works perfectly thank you very much for your patience and assistance! Very helpful and saved me about  £1000 going the DIY route
