Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for the interview or experience of working in a prison, been invited for an interview at a prison near me and I've never been to a prison before let alone a job interview for one

Thanks

Tom

How are you for procedures, and not having your mobile phone at work?

I work as a contractor in 4 of HM's "hotels" and have done for several years.

However, I go NOWHERE near the Con's.

I don't mind the odd day or so there.

However, you MUST have a suitable mindset.

This is not your normal hotel and the guests would often love to kill you, just for the fun of it.

Also, you need to be sure that you can cope with the environment, it is not quite normal.

Sharpie  I wouldn't touch that job with a barge pole TBH  ..............you'd be locked in there everyday with them .....****** that .

Builders I know worked in The Green once ,  were threatened every day to bring ciggies in ......had buckets of urine thrown over them ...run away ..don't look back .

I worked at Holloway prison. First thing we were told was dont walk near the buildings as absolutely anything that can be thrown out the limited opening windows , will be including feces & urine. Any job takes 10 times longer than normal.

All tools are double checked in and out, all broken blades, drill bits & tools have to be kept to be shown on the way out. If you break a drill bit & its stuck/lost in the wall or item you have to get it checked off there and then.

Is this job direct for HMP or as a contractor. The contractors have to be escorted around.

Watch out for flaming toilet rolls!Worked in institutions, not nice places to be in.

Be prepared to see a new side of humanity

:)

Edit: isn't Holloway a womens prison?

We subcontract for the prison service. Its not as bad as all the gory stories. I will however say if you are going for a job with them your going to get paid peanuts, and have to put up with loads of crap you should never have to do in any job.
