I had a 'simple' change of a 100mm extract fan this afternoon. That job took 10 minutes but i could not believe the state of the electrics in the loft that i could not leave.

We all have probably seen some dodgy connector block up in a loft but this really wins the prize

This is what i first noticed, untouched by me

This was next to it which was a bit of quality work compared with the first joint

Close up exactly as  found

Under the black tape

Under the red tape

This was a couple of metres away

And under the tape, the cpc was never connected

The connection in the second photo looks like it might have been done by a sparky. I guess the idea with the tape joints is if you twist the wires then bend the whole joint over it will make it maintenance free.

The second pic looks like it should be called "the spider" has 8 legs too :) the rest is all "birds nest" - what a load of poop :red card  .

I'm surprised that it worked  :pray

Really hate going to a job thinking straight swap no problems 10 mins etc then leaving feeling like you re-wired the whole

Lot of it about. Bell wire feeds the brass wall lights. This one has also has the loft conversion floor done in, I kid ye not, 3/8" T&G shiplap FFS put down with clout nails!!!
