:_|Hi Guys. First timer so be gentle. i am based in south Devon and am finding new sparks vans in the area on a daily basis with local phone numbers or numbers 200 miles away, do they know somthin I dont, cause I is struggling. Tried all my contacts in London and everyone is banking work and not passing it around. Been through some tough times before but I smell a rat. Have got loads of long standing customers but no one is spendin. Is it the same everywhere else. Byeeeee:_| :_| :_|

Welcome craig.

Yes it seems every tom **** & harry has gone out & got a van & is now an expert at sparking / tiling / handyman / home improvements, getting under cut on a few jobs on a regular basis now.

Having said that I am ticking over nicely, I posted about a job I've quoted on (20 odd DL's) the other night, well the chap called today accepting the quote even though I was the more expensive.................why?.............because I didn't roll over when he questioned me on the price of the DL's but gave my advice/view.

Welcome to the forum

busy until Christmas and am now waiting on builders for them to get the go ahead on their projects so i can first fix.

i have been undercut a few times this past few months and i thought my prices were keen :_|

thanks for your input guys. Still doesnt pay the rent & food though let alone niceic subs, public liability ins, 17th update course, regs books, red tape and bureaucracy & all the rest of the B)*****it that goes with trying to do it right. One very disgruntled spark. Wheres the support when you need it. Went into a wholesaler the other month and a customer was asking what lights he could put in hes bathroom. Counter guy says down lights are popular nowadays so then goes on to tell him how to fit and wire them. Incorectly of co****. then the next one comes in and asks I want a socket in my back garden. Same counter guy then sells him a non RCD protected outside socket. I stood there geting p****d right off. Never been a snitch but thought (not using any names) I would ring building control, council, trading standards etc. Guess what. ZILTCH. No ones got the time or inclination. Funny thing though. Got a job to wire a new kitchen. Halfway through the job the old man comes home (never seen him at the house before) its the counter guy!!!! Subtle as I am are asked him why his firm (they have their own sparky division) did'nt do the job, cause he would get a discount. He replied Cause their crap.

The industry has gone to pot. Part P my a**e. Help and support my a**e. The sooner there is a consequence the better, then and only then can we get on with our jobs with respect and a decent wage. We need ID cards. Wholesalers selling only to badge holders and heavy fines implemented. WORDS ARE NOT ENOUGH.

Anyone use Checkatrade out there. Input would be welcome. I like the sound of it.
